Stampin’ Fancy Friday — “For Him”

By | September 9, 2023

For this month’s Stampin’ Fancy Friday, our theme is masculine cards “for him.” I always find these cards a little more challenging, but it’s great timing, because I have lots of September guy birthdays coming up!

To see all the designers’ projects, keep an eye on the Stampin’ Fancy Friday Facebook and Instagram pages. We’d also love to see any of your projects using our monthly theme! Be sure to tag them with @stampinfancyfriday so we can find and admire them!

All guys love trucks, so I figured the Trucking Along Stamp Set would be a perfect choice. While the coordinating punch won’t be available to order again until mid-October, I went ahead and bought the stamp set because it’s so much fun! I couldn’t wait that long. I ended up just doing some simple fussy cutting instead of using the punch.

I’m also using the new Deckled Circles Dies on this card from the Sept-Dec Mini Catalog. Oh boy, are they fun!!! There are 14 dies with the largest measuring 5-3/4″ in diameter! I used three of the dies for layering and then one more to create the illusion of a sun in the background. I cut Masking Paper with the die and watercolored around it.

The central circle is watercolored on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. I used Stazon ink to stamp the truck and then watercolored it with Tahitian Tide, Copper Clay, Smoky Slate, and Memento ink. Then, I stamped the palm tree detail, along with the surfboard and volleyball by coloring the stamp with Stampin’ Write Markers in Mossy Meadow, Sweet Sorbet, and Basic Black. Afterwards, I watercolored the the image with Old Olive, Granny Apple Green, Sweet Sorbet, and Smoky Slate ink.

In the background of the circle, I watercolored the ground with Crumb Cake and the sky with Balmy Blue, Daffodil Delight and Sweet Sorbet ink. Then I stamped the palm tree “fill” stamp several times in Old Olive and Granny Apple Green. That stamp is meant to fill in the palm tree behind the truck, so I positioned the stamp so it didn’t get cut off and then I hand painted the trunks.

I used the Twisted Rope Embossing Folder in the background of my card. However, prior to dry embossing it, I used a brayer to apply Craft White ink to the raised side. That way, when I embossed it, the highlights of the rope look lighter. I also roughed up the edges of that layer with Paper Snips.

Final touches included some Burlap Ribbon and Rustic Metallic Dots.

I love the Trucking Along Stamp Set and can’t wait to use it for holiday cards. It’s available in the Online Exclusives section of my online store.
