Masculine Valentines

By | February 1, 2019

After all the ultra feminine Valentine’s Day projects I’ve been posting, I bet you’re ready for an idea for those wonderful guys in your life. Today, I’m sharing cards I designed for my husband and son. They are essentially the same card, but with different sentiments. I used the Meant to Be and coordinating Be Mine Stitched Framelits. (You can buy these products in a bundle for 10% off.)

At first glance, the Meant To Be stamp set and coordinating framelits dies are very girly, with lots of scallops and swirls. But, there are definitely ways to make them manly. First, I chose masculine colors (Balmy Blue, Blueberry Bushel, and Early Espresso), then I added Wood Textures Designer Series Paper, and lastly I selected only the dies with straight or stitched edges. I also roughed up some of the elements with splatters, sponging, and the Corrugated Dynamic Textured Impression Embossing folder.

Tip: To create the splatters, I poured a little Craft White ink refill onto the lid of my ink pad. Then, I used an Aqua Painter to add water to thin out the ink, held the brush above the paper and tapped the barrel with a Bone Folder.

I LOVE the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. In fact, I’ve gone through more packs of that paper than any paper I’ve ever owned! There are so many different designs too!!!. For these cards, I selected warm colored woods and ones that showed a lot of texture.

The background layer of my card is a sheet of Watercolor Paper, as well as the largest heart. This paper has a slight texture, so it’s great for masculine cards. Of course, it’s also great for painting a watercolor wash using Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel ink. Afterwards, I roughed up the edges with my fingernail.

I embossed both sentiments in white on Early Espresso Cardstock and then cut them out with a Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies. Then, I sponged the edges. I also used Early Espresso Cardstock to cut the row of outline hearts. The three smallest heart embellishment are the pieces that came out of that same die when I cut it out of Wood Textures Designer Series Paper.

Supplies used on my card:

Have a wonderful and creative day!
