#TGIFC384 — Color Challenge

By | September 2, 2022

Happy Friday! This week’s TGIF Challenge is a color challenge including all the 2022-2024 In Colors. I LOVE these colors, so this is going to be a fun one. They include Starry Sky, Orchid Oasis, Tahitian Tide, Parakeet Party, and Sweet Sorbet.

If you’re new to Stampin’ Up!, let me explain In Colors. Each year, Stampin’ Up! adds five trendy colors to it’s standard 48 color palette. The In Colors are only available for two years, but they help keep the total color palette fresh and up-to-date.

For my card this week, I chose something really different (for me), a stamp set called Seal of Approval. When I first saw it, I immediately thought of my husband. He’s very good at imitating seal barks. (In fact, he’s really good at making all sorts of animal noises, but seals are his specialty.) Funny story, we were on a pier in Santa Cruz once and he barked out at the seals and a BUNCH of them popped up their heads looking around to see what was up! It was hysterical! Honest truth!!!

(I know that technically speaking it’s sea lions that bark and not seals … I’m just going with it.)

These stamps have a lot of delicate details, so here’s my tip to get a really good stamped image. Prep your ink pad by using a plastic spoon to push the ink away from the center of the pad towards the outside edges, and then ink up the stamp in the middle of the pad. It really makes a big difference, especially if you have a very juicy ink pad. It also helps to stamp on Basic White Cardstock, because it’s so smooth.

I stamped my seals with Smoky Slate ink and then used Starry Sky, Orchid Oasis, and Tahitian Tide to watercolor the background.

I created the background with the Layering Diorama Dies and Shimmery White Cardstock. Not only did I watercolor each layer, but I added Tahitian Tide splatter with a Stampin’ Write Marker.

For the swirl under the seals, I stamped with Tahitian Tide ink on Shimmery White Cardstock and then used a Water Painter to lightly paint over the image to make it look watercolored. For the trees, I inked up the stamp with Parakeet Party and then used a Sponge Dauber to add some Tahitian Tide shading on the bottom portion.

Finally, I stamped the sentiment with Basic Gray ink and used Stampin’ Write Markers to color the words, including Sweet Sorbet. Check off all five colors!
