#TGIFC310 — Color Challenge

By | April 2, 2021

Happy Good Friday! Since Easter is this weekend, I used this week’s TGIF Color Challenge to design a special treat box for my daughter. (I also made a masculine version for my son using different colors. See below.) This week’s colors include Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo, and Pool Party. They screamed girly, girl Easter to me:)

For my treat box, I decorated a Mini Paper Pumpkin Box using the Arrange A Wreath Bundle, one of my all time favorites! (It will be retiring May 3rd, so order soon if it’s still on your wish list.) I love how easy it is to layer multiple die cuts with this bundle and create a gorgeous seasonal wreath.

To create the pretty watercolored eggs, I randomly watercolored a scrap of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper with the three challenge colors. I started by brushing both the back and front of the paper with water so it wouldn’t curl (my personal tip!) Then, while the paper was still wet I used the large Water Painter to brush on the three colors. Since mixing Pool Party with either of the two pinks basically makes “mud,” I was careful to barely touch those colors. After allowing the paper to dry, I die cut the eggs, purposely selecting really pretty sections.

I really love how the bow turned out! I wrapped some Pool Party 3/8″ Sheer Ribbon around my fingers three times and then tied a tight knot around the center with a strip of Whisper White 5/8″ Polka Dot Tulle. Then, just separate and fluff.

These boxes practically hold an entire bag of Dove chocolates (my daughter’s favorite.)

For my masculine version, I switched up the colors to Pear Pizzazz, Bermuda Bay, and Pool Party.

For both boxes, I used the Subtles and Brights 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper Packs in the background. However, for the masculine version, I also added some wood prints from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper. (I’m totally thrilled to see that this paper will carry over to the new Annual Catalog! It’s definitely a fav of mine.)

This box is filled with my son’s favorite, Hershey’s eggs. My kids may be in their 20s, but they still love getting Easter care packages in the mail! 🙂

Be sure to click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog and check out all the designers’ projects this week. Then, create a project of your own using the challenge colors. It’s so fun to do these challenges, because it forces you to get out of your comfort zone and try something you wouldn’t have thought of on your own. They have inspired me to do some of my best work, so why not give it a try?

Happy crafting!
