Texture with Full of Love & Cup of Tea

By | July 27, 2022

One of my favorite things about handmade cards is texture! I love the dimension of layers, ribbons, and embellishments. Today, I’m sharing two cards with lots of texture.

I made these cards last month, and my goal was to make a birthday card for my son’s fiancé, Josie. She told me her favorite colors are mint green and a cool light blue, so I used a color combination of Soft Sea Foam and Balmy Blue for both cards.

Full of Love Card:

My first card features the Full of Love stamp set and Linen Paper. Linen Paper is perfect for adding texture, because it feels like fabric.

I used Blending Brushes to add both Balmy Blue and Soft Sea Foam ink to the Linen Paper. Then, I frayed the edges to enhance the fabric look of the paper. The hardest part of this process is cutting the paper straight to go with the grain of the Linen Paper fibers. Here’s my tip, cut the layer larger than you’ll need and start by fraying the longer side. As the fibers come out and reveal the grain, straighten that edge and then use it as a guide to cut the other sides.

After finishing the background, I stamped the Full of Love image two times with Memento ink on Basic White Cardstock and colored them with Stampin’ Blends Markers. Then, I cut out portions of some of the flowers to layer for a 3D look.

I also used some Wisteria Dies in the background, White 3/4″ Frayed Ribbon, and For Everything Fancy Sequins for additional texture. Those sequins are so great! They come in three colors and not only do you get TONS of sequins, they are so varied and pretty!

Cup of Tea Card:

The Cup of Tea Bundle is perfect for Josie, because she (and my son) introduced me to really good tea. Being from the San Francisco Bay Area, she KNOWS her tea (and coffee!)

The Tea Cup Dies are designed to add texture, because they layer. I cut them all out of Basic White Cardstock and then lightly watercolored the bottom layers for a subtle look. I also particularly love the tea bag dies. I added some Linen Thread with a mini stapler to make it look like a real tea bag.

For the multi colored leaves. I inked up the stamp with Soft Sea Foam ink and then applied Balmy Blue ink directly to the stamp with a Sponge Dauber before lightly spritzing with water and stamping on Basic White Cardstock.

For additional texture elements of this card, I used the Hive 3D Embossing Folder in the background, Forever Flourish Dies, and more For Everything Fancy Sequins.

Have a great day!
