Commonwealth of Colour

By | September 29, 2022

Welcome to the Commonwealth of Colour (#commonwealthofcolour), a tribute to the recent passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II brought to you by my Artisan alumni friends and I.

My Artisan friends from the UK and Commonwealth Nations created this lovely tribute, and I was happy to join in. While I was born and raised in the U.S., I have both English and Scottish heritage. My grandfather Sam lived in Great Brittan until he was 16 years old, when his family immigrated to the U.S.

Our projects are inspired by the Commonwealth and/or the amazing colours the Queen would wear.

We are sharing all our projects on Instagram today with the hashtag #commonwealthofcolour. (Note the European spelling of “colour” in the hashtag.) I chose the lower, left side of the prompt photo, including lilacs and pastel pinks.

I used the Cottage Rose Bundle for my flowers. This stamp set makes me think of beautiful English gardens. I stamped the flowers with Stazon ink on Shimmery White Cardstock and then watercolored them with Blushing Bride, Positively Pink, Fresh Freesia, and Highland Heather ink. Afterwards, I used an old beat up Chalk Marker to color the flower centers white. (Sometimes it’s good to keep old stuff!)

The layer behind the flowers includes some Abigail Rose Designer Series Paper that I cut with a spiral edge from the Blossoming Happiness Dies. I splattered it with a Polished Pink Stampin’ Write Marker and then used a Blending Brush to add a little Blushing Bride ink behind the sentiment.

I borrowed a sentiment from the Dragonfly Garden stamp set that seemed very appropriate. The Queen had such incredible poise and grace over her long reign. She was a true inspiration.

The sentiment is embossed in gold on Shimmery White, and then I added some Natural Woven Ribbon that I slightly unraveled, and some Iridescent Pearls.

Check out the explosion of colorful inspiration on Instagram and join in the fun by using #commonwealthofcolour when you post your projects.

Have a wonderful and creative day.
