#TGIFC190 Sketch Challenge

By | December 14, 2018

This week at TGIF Challenges, we have a sketch that’s perfect for the holidays!  It looks like a beautifully wrapped present, and it would work for just about any project, including cards, gift boxes, gift certificate holders, or even tags.

I love working with sketch challenges, because the design aspect is already finished.  All I need to do is add colors and embellishments.  Easy, peasy!!!

Be sure to click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog to see all the designers’ projects this week using the sketch!

While I did manage to mail out ALL my Christmas cards this week, I still needed a few spares to hand out to friends.  Also, so far I’ve made a lot of glitzy, sparkly cards, and what I really needed was some masculine ones.  So I decided to use this sketch to design a rustic card.

I used a lot of products from the Festive Farmhouse suite, including the Festive Farmhouse designer series paper (DSP), galvanized buttons, striped burlap trim, and cotton twine.  All of these products are great for masculine cards.  Then, I paired them with the Merry Christmas to All Bundle of stamps and thinlits dies, as well as the Pretty Pines thinlits dies.

As you can see, this card involved very little stamping, it was mostly a matter of cutting and layering the dies.

I started by “wrapping” my present with 5/8″ Burlap Striped Trim.  Because this trim is a little stiff, I used Tear & Tape adhesive to secure both the trim and DSP to the cardbase.  The stripe pattern on this trim is just perfect for the sketch!

Keeping with the rustic theme, I used various sheets of Wood Textures DSP to cut out the pinecones and “twig.”  I particularly love the one pinecone die that has all the notches, similar to the In The Woods tree.  The 3-D look is awesome!

I wanted the “Merry” die cut to really stand out, so I purposely selected colors for the background and other dies that were darker.

Speaking of the “Merry,” I cut it out of Thick Very Vanilla cardstock, and to give it some additional weight and depth, I stacked three dies on top of each other.

I’m super happy with how this turned out.  What do you think?

I’d love to see your take on this week’s TGIF Challenges sketch!  Design your own card using the sketch, post it on social media or your blog, and then go to the TGIF Challenges blog to link your project to the post.  It’s that easy!  We pick a winner every week!!!

Have a wonderful and creative day.

I love all the layering on your card. I know there is a challenge out there that involves no stamping but I can’t remember the name. I’ll have to check so I can CASE your wonderful card!
