#TGIFC480 — Color Challenge

By | July 5, 2024

Happy Friday! It’s a new month and that means a new color challenge at TGIF Challenges. This time, we have a color combination of White, Black, and Real Red. It’s funny how I’ve had two color challenges in the same week with black and white! What a crazy coincidence.

I tried to think outside the box on this one and used the Beach Day Stamp Set and coordinating Dies! I recalled that there was a really pretty sheet of Full of Life Designer Series Paper with mostly Real Red that looked like a sunset or sunrise. So I thought it would be fun to create a peaceful tropical scene.

Instead of simply cutting the palm trees from Basic Black, as though they are in silhouette, I decided to show slight shades of Real Red. To achieve this, I used a Blending Brush to add Tuxedo Black Memento ink to a sheet of Real Red Cardstock. I also added Real Red ink and then splattered the whole layer with clear water droplets. While it’s subtle, you can see lots of variation of red and black in the trees. Then, when I cut them, I purposely picked darker areas for the leaves in the background. Then, I picked a redder portion for the sentiment.

Hidden on this card is a little gem … the waves are cut from a sheet of Graceful Greenery Vellum, a new Online Exclusive available this week! I was so sad when Stampin’ Up retired Vellum Paper, so when I saw this sheet of vellum with printed white splatter, I was so excited! It works perfect for waves!

I stamped the surfboard with Stazon ink on Basic White Cardstock and watercolored it with a little Real Red ink.

While I wasn’t initially thrilled with this color challenge, it ended up being really fun! It forced me to create something I never would have thought to do otherwise.
