#TGIFC332 – Color Challenge

By | September 3, 2021

Hello and Happy September! I can’t believe it’s already September; the summer has flown by!!! A new month means a new color challenge at TGIF Challenges. Our latest color combination includes Cherry Cobbler, Cinnamon Cider, and Mossy Meadow. I immediately thought of Christmas when I first saw these colors, but because I’m still clinging to the last days of summer, I decided to ease into the changing seasons by creating a Fall-themed card instead.

My card features the Inspired Thoughts Bundle, including the Inspired Thoughts Cling Stamps and Inspiring Canopy Dies (purchase in a bundle and save 10%!) I particularly love the dies in this bundle, because they include four different tree leaf dies in varying sizes to build very realistic-looking leaves.

This card was actually so simple! I cut out the tree trunks and branches from Cork 12″ x 12″ Specialty Paper. The die cuts all four trees at once, and the Cork paper includes those cool markings, which are perfect for trees. Then, I took a full sheet of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and randomly watercolored it with the three challenge colors: Cherry Cobbler, Cinnamon Cider, and Mossy Meadow. I started by getting the paper wet, and then squeezing my ink pads to pool ink in the lids. (You could also place a drop or two of re-inker in the lids.) Then, I added a little water and randomly painted the paper. I purposely tried to create lots of dark and light areas and didn’t mix the colors too much. (If I had, some of these colors would mix together to make mud!) After the paper was dry, I chose my favorite sections to cut out the leaf dies.

When I was working with the leaf dies, I realized that the little pieces that fell out sort of looked like individual leaves. So, I kept them and adhered them to the hills to look like fallen leaves!

To create the hills, I cut strips from Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper. My card is a little oversized, measuring 6-1/2″ x 4-1/4″. Therefore, it was necessary to splice the die in order to cut across the entire card. To do this, I made a cut a little more than half way across the strip, and then I flipped the die, aligned the end with the first cut, and cut the remaining section.

The background is a layer of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper that I watercolored very lightly with Balmy Blue ink to create a soft sky.

Be sure to click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog and check out all the designers’ projects using this color combination. Then, create one of your own and post it on your blog, Facebook, or Instagram and link it to our challenge at the bottom of that post. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Have a wonderful and creative day!!!

Hi Debbie! Thanks so much for your sweet comments. Making videos is on my “to do” list. I need a new phone with more memory first! I have an upcoming Artisan post that might help visualize this technique better.
