#TGIFC314 — Oh My Ombre’

By | April 30, 2021

Hey Friends, it’s Friday and that means TGIF Challenge day! This time, we have a “Designer’s Choice” challenge, brought to you by the fabulous Charlet Mallet. She is such a talented artist! I had the pleasure of meeting her in Orlando at the Stampin’ Up! Convention a couple years ago, and she’s just the nicest person! Charlet’s choice is “Oh My Ombre’.” I love creating ombre’ backgrounds, but you could literally use this challenge to add any ombre’ element to your project, including ribbons, sentiments, embellishments, layers, etc.

My card features the Simply Succulent stamp set and coordinating Potted Succulents Dies (purchase in a bundle to save 10%.) I created it for my wonderful mom for Mother’s Day. She told me she really loves this stamp set, so I thought it would be the perfect choice.

For the ombre’ element, I created a blended background using Blending Brushes and Pale Papaya (new In Color – see below) and Calypso Coral ink. Then, I made my own stencil using the large Potted Succulent background die and Thick Basic White Cardstock and used it to apply Embossing Paste to the entire background layer! I love how this technique adds texture, but still allows the ombre’ colors to show through.

Speaking of colors, each year, Stampin’ Up! adds five new trendy colors to it’s classic color palette to keep the overall colors fresh and “on trend.” The new In Colors will be available to purchase in the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog that goes live on May 4, 2021 and will be available for two years. They coordinate particularly well with each other and the In Colors from last year. I used all of the new In Colors, except one (Polished Pink) on this card.

To my absolute delight, the new Annual Catalog offers Stampin’ Blends in all five new In Colors! The greens are obvious colors for this image. I also used Just Jade (a 2020 In Color) and a few additional colors to highlight the plant tips, including Balmy Blue, Fresh Freesia, and Pale Papaya. I think the Stampin’ Blends add a second ombre’ element to this card with the gentle shading.

To add more depth, I stamped the main image a second time and cut out the central plant to color and layer with Dimensionals. I also layered one of the smaller plants on the right side to balance out the pot. Finally to color the pot itself, I used a combination of Cinnamon Cider and Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends Markers.

To Finish off the card, I added some Pale Papaya & White 1/2″ Ribbon that I folded in place and secured with some Tear & Tape Adhesive, and some 2021-2023 In Color Jewels.

The sentiment is from the Wish For Everything Stamp Set.

I can’t wait to see what the other designers created for this challenge. Click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog to see all their amazing creations and to join our challenge!

Did you do a video on this background? Just looking for clarification on the background technique. You blended the white cardstock then put the white embossing paste over it and the color still came through?

Hi Anita, I didn’t do a video, but you’ve got it right. The embossing paste is not opaque so the colors do show through. Thanks for ask8ng.
