#TGIFC283 – Ink Blending

By | September 25, 2020

Hi Everyone! It’s Friday, and that means a new TGIF Challenge, but this one is a little different, because it’s “Designer Take Over” and it’s my turn to be the designer!!! We started this new type of challenge last month, and I think it’s really fun. My challenge choice is ink blending, because it’s BEAUTIFUL and one of my favorite techniques!

Ink blending is a technique using Stampin’ Sponges or Sponge Daubers to add ink to cardstock or even stamps in order to create soft, blended effects.

Tip: Patience and a light hand is key to getting nice, smooth blending. I suggest inking up the sponge or dauber and then applying with small circles starting off the layer. You can always add more color, so creep up on it slowly.

For this card, I used Blackberry Bliss, Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, and Pear Pizzazz ink to create the blended background.

I also used ink blending to create the multi-colored partridge. I started by inking up the stamp with the lightest color (Coastal Cabana) and then used Sponge Daubers to add Blackberry Bliss and Pear Pizzazz directly onto the photopolymer stamp. Next, I gave the stamp a little huff to re-moisten the ink and stamped on Whisper White Cardstock. Voila!!!

To really showcase the ink blending on this card, I kept all the other elements solid. I cut out one wreath from Blackberry Bliss Cardstock, one from Whisper White Cardstock, and one from Vellum Cardstock. After layering them together, I added the pears, which I embossed in white on Vellum Cardstock. I also embossed a few extra leaves on Pear Pizzazz Cardstock to layer under the partridge.

On the card base, I added a simple layer of Whisper White Cardstock embossed with the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder.

Tip: To get a nice “V” on my tag, I used the Tailored Tag Punch. Flip the punch over so you can see the back and then feed a strip of paper though just enough to notch the end.

I really hope you can join in on our challenge this week! Create your project and post a photo on your blog or social media. Then, go to the TGIF Challenges Blog and use the Linky Tool at the bottom of the post to submit your entry! I can’t wait to see all your ink blended projects!!!

Tammy, I’m always drawn to your beautiful cards! I love the colors you chose for the ink blending for the background and the partridge. I have these dies, but wasn’t sure about the stamps until now. Your card has me sold on them! Thanks for sharing your talent!
