#TGIFC214 – Create a Set

By | May 31, 2019

Are you excited about the new In Colors? They are one of my favorite things about a new Annual Catalog. I mean, who doesn’t love to play with new, beautiful colors? Each year, Stampin’ Up! introduces five new, trendy colors that will only available to order for two years. They coordinate with all the longstanding favorites, and especially with the prior year’s In Colors, for infinite possibilities! So, here they are:

I LOVE color, and frequently start a project by thinking of the colors first. So when I saw the TGIF Challenge for this week, I immediately thought of creating a set of cards to show off the new 2019-2021 In Colors.

To create my set, I used the new Floral Essence stamp set and coordinating Perennial Flower Punch (available to purchase on June 4, 2019.)

(You may notice that there are only four cards, instead of five for each of the new In Colors. Due to quality issues with the Purple Posy stamp pad and ink refills, demonstrators have not been able to pre-order those two items. Nor, does it sound like they will be available to customers to order on June 4, 2019 when the Annual Catalog goes live. Stampin’ Up! is working with the supplier to correct the issue as soon as possible. I will let you know when these products are available to order.)

I used a couple fun watercoloring techniques to create these cards.

Background:

To create the background, I started with a layer of Shimmery White Cardstock and used a sponge dauber to add ink starting at the top and fading down to white. I applied ink quite heavily to the top for intense color. Afterwards, I unscrewed my Spritzer, held the inside tube over my paper, and tapped it to add large water droplets. After about 30 seconds, I mopped up the water with a paper towel.

Flowers:

I used two different techniques to stamp the flowers. First, I stamped the outline flowers on Shimmery White Cardstock, and then I used an Aqua Painter to add watercolor brushstrokes in the center. For the middle flowers, I inked up the stamp, then used a sponge dauber to add extra ink to the center. Prior to stamping, I used an Aqua Painter to brush clear water over the stamp. Then, I stamped the centers. This technique makes the stamped image look painted, and I love it!

For the centers of the flowers, I added some Magnolia Memories die cuts that I painted with a Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.

I stamped some of the leaves on Shimmery White Cardstock with coordinating ink, and then punched them out with the Leaf Punch. For the other leaves, I embossed them in white on Vellum and cut them out by hand.

Final touches included some ribbon and In Color Faceted Dots. I have to say that I really ADORE these new In Colors. The more I work with them, the more I love them.

Be sure to click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog to check out all the “sets” the desigers’ created this week. They are sure to inspire you. At the site, you can also upload your own project for a chance to win. I would love to see what you can do with this challenge.

Have a wonderful and create day!

These are totally stunning! Love what you’ve done – and your explanation for the lack of purple posy explains the difficulties I had in getting my purple posy to play ball!
