21st Birthday Brew

By | April 23, 2018

My daughter’s boyfriend turned 21 this month!  I wanted to make a special card for him, because that’s a big milestone.  He’s a great kid … smart, kind, plays football for the University of Redlands, and he’s is also a fraternity brother.  So, I thought beer bottles would be very apropos.  (In moderation of course!)  The Bubble Over suite of products was an obvious choice.

I really wanted to try and make the bottles look real.  So I searched for photos of beer bottles online to copy the coloring, shading, and reflections. I cut out all the pieces from either watercolor paper or Silver Foil.  Then, I used Garden Green, Crushed Curry, Soft Suede, and Dapper Denim ink to watercolor them.  When the pieces were thoroughly dry, I pressed them into my Versamark ink pad, covered them with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and heat set them.  For the bottles, I embossed them twice to get an extra glassy look.  I’m pretty happy with how they turned out:)

If you look closely, the bottles are actually sweating!  I added Clear Epoxy Shapes, which are totally awesome.

To make the labels, I trimmed and manipulated the Bottles & Bubbles Framelits Dies to get the shapes I needed to copy the real beer bottles.  For example, I cut some extra bottle tops and then used the hexagon die in the Bottles & Bubbles Framelits to trim the bottom of one.  I also used the bottom of the bottle dies to trim some of the other labels with a straight edge.  (Sorry … I should have taken pictures, but I was making this up as I went along and wasn’t sure it was going to work!)

Don’t you just love those bottle caps too?  There are four die cuts included in the set, so it makes cutting quick and easy.  I cut mine from Silver Foil to look authentic.

For the inside of the card, I cut the “21” with Large Number Framelits out of Color Theory Designer Series Paper.    I used sheets of that same paper stack on the outside and inside of my card.  The “cheers” stamps are from Mixed Drinks.

Both the Large Number Framelits and Mixed Drinks stamp set are retiring products and only available while supplies last.  They are big favorites of mine, as they are super versatile.  You can check out the full list of retiring products on my Catalogs Tab.  For up-to-date information on availability, go to my On-Line Store.  There are also new items added to the Clearance Rack!!!

Supplies used on my card:

Have a wonderful and creative day!

Simply wonderful. I bought a pack of the clear epoxy shapes for when I finally do get this bundle and make my husband a card and some of his friends! Thanks for the details! My physical therapist brews his own beer. My last session is Thurs. I am going to ask him if he has his own label and then eventually make him a card for his birthday this fall.
