#TGIFC468 — Sketch Challenge

By | April 12, 2024

Happy Friday and welcome to a new TGIF Sketch Challenge. I love our sketch this week! It’s so different because all the focus is on the lower portion of the card, and it really inspired me. I decided to use the new Seaside Wishes Bundle from the upcoming 2024-2025 Annual Catalog. This bundle immediately caught my eye, as I’m sure you would have guessed. I’m known for loving all ocean-themed products, and these were no exception. Plus, I’ve always had a love for sand dollars, so this was a win/win. This bundle will be available to purchase on May 1, 2024 when the new catalog goes live.

The Seaside Wishes Bundle includes the Seaside Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set and Seaside Wishes Hybrid Embossing Folder. The stamps are a watercolor style and you can use the coordinating embossing folder alone or to dry emboss some of the stamped images. Plus, one of the dies fits into the embossing folder to both cut and emboss at the same time! So there are loads of creative possibilities!

I particularly LOVE the detailed, lacey sand dollar die-cuts! There are two sizes!!!

On this card, I also used the new So Swirly Embossing Folder, because I thought it looked like waves or wave marks in the sand.

I played around with the stamps a little before deciding what to do on this card. Ultimately, what I liked best was to stamp the images and then use a fairly dry Water Painter to lightly watercolor the images and blend them. By doing this, I was also able to add additional ink colors.

I used a color combination of Pretty Peacock, Summer Splash (a new 2024-2025 In Color), Melon Mambo, and Crumb Cake. I was inspired by photos of real sand dollars from the internet.

I stamped the images on Fluid Watercolor Paper and then lightly blended them with a Water Painter. For the Pretty Peacock sand dollar, I added a little Summer Splash ink when I watercolored. For the Summer Splash sand dollar, I added a little Pretty Peacock and Melon Mambo ink when I watercolored. I also pre-painted the background and stamped the sand with Crumb Cake ink before embossing the whole layer with the So Swirly Embossing Folder.

On the inside, I used a few extra pieces. I also stamped some of the rock images with Crumb Cake ink (stamped off once on scratch paper to lighten the shade.)
