#TGIFC580 – Color Challenge with Fern & Flora Bundle

Welcome to a new TGIF Challenge! This week, we have a color challenge with Smoky Slate, Night of Navy, and Granny Apple Green. I have to admit this is was a CHALLENGE! It’s definitely not a combo I would have come up with on my own … I like all the colors individually, but together, well that threw me for a loop. I tried a few things and ended up with a simple design featuring the Fern & Flora Bundle. When I’m struggling, I always tell myself to go back to basics, simplify, and do what I love … watercoloring.

I started by watercoloring an ombre wash on three small sheets of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper to die-cut the individual ferns/leaves. Then, I watercolored a light background with Night of Navy and Granny Apple Green ink, and then dry embossed it with the Fern & Flora 3D Embossing Folder. I roughed up the edges of the watercolor paper with my scissors, something I love to do with watercolor paper. It looks so cool. Then, I added splatter with both Night of Navy and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends Markers.

I didn’t have any current designer series papers in these colors, so I made my own with the Fern & Flora line stamp and Granny Apple Green Two-Tone Cardstock. What’s fun is that paper has a white core, so it’s perfect for tearing.

On the inside, I added a strip of Beautiful Gallery DSP in Smoky Slate and few more die-cuts I squeezed out of the watercolor paper.
