#TGIFC446 — Sketch Challenge

By | November 10, 2023

It’s Friday and that means time for a new TGIF Challenge! This week, our theme is the sketch below. I used the Regal Reindeer Stamps and coordinating Reindeer Dies to create my card, along with some beautiful One Horse Open Sleigh Designer Series Paper (DSP.)

When I looked at the sketch, I thought it would work great for layering DSP with a small focal image. I realized that I hadn’t given my Regal Reindeer Bundle much love lately. (It was a carryover from last year.) I figured it was the perfect choice.

To start, I cut my One Horse Open Sleigh DSP to match the sketch. I picked a lovely snow scene to set the mood and then flipped it over to cut the Deckled Rectangle Die in the background. I also cut a mat layer of Boho Blue to fit over the entire card front and dry embossed it with the Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder. Then, to highlight the dry embossing, I dragged my Craft White stamp pad over the layer prior to adhering it to the card base.

The focal area includes a Deckled Circle die-cut from Basic White with some die cut trees. To create the trees, I randomly watercolored Basic White Cardstock with Old Olive and Mossy Meadow ink and then die-cut the trees after it dried. This may sound backwards, but I prefer to paint first, because that way I don’t flatten the subtle embossing with water, which often happens when I paint after cutting.

I stamped the reindeer with Stazon Ink on Thick Basic White cardstock and watercolored the larger areas with Water Painters. That included the reindeer (Crumb Cake and Gray Granite) and harness (Real Red and Old Olive.) Then, I used watercolor pencils to color smaller details and add shading. Super sharp watercolor pencils are perfect for this! Lastly, I splattered the circle die-cut with a Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.

The sentiment is heat embossed in white on Boho Blue with a little strip of More Dazzle DSP and adhered over a bow tied with Silver & White Sheer Ribbon.
