#TGIFC422 — What Would You Do…

By | May 26, 2023

Happy Friday! This week’s TGIF Challenge is “What would you do … with a Navy Blue background?” Fun, right? Personally, I LOVE navy blue’ it’s one of my very favorite colors. Also, the new Countryside Inn Designer Series Paper (DSP) has several beautiful prints with Night of Navy backgrounds, so this challenge was easy!!!

I created a slimline card that fits in a legal envelope. (I miss the retired slimline envelopes Stampin’ Up! carried last year, but I happened to have some pretty light blue ones that I had purchased from a craft store many years ago that were perfect for this situation.) I needed lots of room because I wanted to play with the Paper Florist Dies!!! They are sooo pretty!

To create the flowers, I cut the petals out of Basic White Cardstock and used Blending Brushes to add different ink colors to the centers. The large flower has Balmy Blue ink and the smaller flowers have Fresh Freesia and Boho Blue ink in the centers. While you can’t necessarily see it in the photos, I added ink to the centers of all the petals (front and back), including the bottom layers. That way, when I curled the petals with a Bone Folder, I could see ink from all angles. Depending on how large I wanted the flowers, I added more layers. The smaller flowers use the die shown in the photos and the larger flower uses the biggest die that cuts three individual petals at a time. I used liquid glue to adhere the petals together.

For the flower centers, I used Soft Shimmer Specialty Paper in Fresh Freesia. Tip: To create the center of the large flower, I cut three stips. Then, I curled the paper with a Bone Folder so that the shimmer side was facing inside and rolled the stips as tight as possible (with some liquid glue along the bottom.) As I finished one strip, I glued on a second and then a third to create a large tube. After the glue dried, I used my fingers to open the stamens making the shimmer side of the paper show.

Underneath the flowers, I added die-cut leaves from Balmy Blue, Boho Blue, and Misty Moonlight Cardstock using both the Paper Florist Dies and the Textured Floral Dies. Then, in the background I used two different sheets of Countryside Inn DSP.

My greeting is from the Go To Greetings Stamp Set heat embossed in white on Night of Navy Cardstock and cut out with the Stylish Shapes Dies.

The final touch was some Fresh Freesia Tinsel Gems from the Three Pack and some silver Simply Elegant Trim.
