#TGIFC398 – Sketch Challenge

By | December 9, 2022

Hello and welcome. It’s time for another TGIF Challenge! This week, our challenge is to use the sketch below. I love it, because it’s great for layering, one of my favorite things to do.

I needed to make a really special thank you card, so I decided to use this sketch as a starting point and check off a couple to-dos at the same time. My card features the Fancy Flora Suite Collection from the upcoming January-June Mini Catalog. This mega suite includes the following coordinating products: Two-Tone Flora Bundle, Something Fancy Bundle, Fine Shimmer 12″ x 12 Designer Series Paper, Fancy Flora 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, and Pool Party Grosgrain Ribbon. You can find them on pages 14 – 17 of the JJ Mini and they’ll be available to purchase on January 5, 2023.

The designer series papers in this suite are GORGEOUS!!! I’m totally in love. I used the Fancy Flora DSP for the top layers and the Fine Shimmer DSP for some of the die-cuts. Those die-cuts actually come from a single background die that I cut into individual pieces to create flower die-cuts. The Fine Shimmer DSP comes in Soft Succulent (used here), Fresh Freesia, and a beautiful light gold!

Tip: The Fine Shimmer Paper is really thick. In fact, it would be perfect for creating gift boxes! Prior to cutting the detailed background die, I peeled off some of the backing to thin it out and then I adhered an Adhesive Sheet to make it easy to attach the delicate die-cuts to my project.

I used two different techniques on this card, that you might not notice at first glance. First, to create the rectangle shape in the background (similar to the sketch), I used a partial die-cutting technique. I used the 2nd largest Stitched Rectangle Die and ran only three sides through the cut and emboss machine. Then, I re-positioned the die before cutting the 4th side, so the shape was tall and narrow. Second, I used a stamping technique to add two colors to each flower and make them look watercolored. I inked up the stamp with one color, stamped off on scratch paper 1-2 times, and then used a Sponge Dauber to add a second color directly onto the stamp. Then, I spritzed the stamp with water (sometimes quite a bit of water) before stamping on Basic White Cardstock. Lastly, I used a Stamparatus to align the detail stamp over the original.

Did you notice the top label? I cut it using the new Something Fancy Dies. This is a great die set that coordinates with the Something Fancy Stamps, which I used for the thank you sentiment. The dies include three different shapes, with multiple sizes for each, and detailed insets. It’s a definite must have!

To complete my project, I added some Fine Sparkle Adhesive-Backed Gems from the current Mini and tied a fancy bow with some new Pool Party Grosgrain Ribbon (cut in half lengthwise) and 2022-2024 In Color Baker’s Twine (unraveled Orchid Oasis strand.)

I hope this project has inspired you to take a look at this new amazing suite of products in the JJ Mini. Also, be sure to check out the TGIF Challenges Blog for the other designers’ projects using this sketch. Then, use the Linky Tool at the bottom of that post to enter our challenge!
