Hello and welcome to a new TGIF Challenge! This week, we have a great inspiration challenge — Tone on Tone. This is such a fun, subtle technique that’s often overlooked. I love mono-tone cards, concentrating on one beautiful color or no color at all. I can’t wait to see what all the other designers create!
Since I just attended Creativity Now last weekend, an online crafting event for demonstrators, I happened to have a new bundle called Splendid Thoughts sitting on my desk. This bundle will be available to purchase on July 1 when the new July-December Mini Catalog goes live! The bundle is beautiful and includes the Splendid Thoughts Cling Stamp Set and Splendid Stems Dies. In addition, it coordinates with the gorgeous new Splendid Day Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP), which includes several foil sheets in stunning colors such as the Fresh Freesia used on the card below.
My whole card focuses on the color Fresh Freesia, including the cardstock, stamped images, watercoloring, designer series paper, and even the Opal Rounds. The only exception is white embossing and baker’s twine.
I embossed the leaf images in white on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and then watercolored them with Fresh Freesia ink. To get lots of variation in color, I placed a few drops of ink refill in the lid of my ink pad and applied several coats of ink to the darker areas.
Then, I cut the detailed leaf dies from both sides of the Fresh Freesia colored Splendid Day DSP, including both a print and a foil print. Afterwards, I cut the half circle from Fresh Freesia Cardstock and dry embossed it with the Hive 3D embossing folder.
In the background, I cut two layers with Deckled Rectangle Dies and used a watercoloring technique that I demonstrated during the Creativity Now event. I also stamped some of the leaf “fill” images on the card base itself.
