#TGIFC288 — Designer Take Over

By | October 30, 2020

Happy Friday!!! It’s the last Friday of the month, so that means a new “Designer Take Over” at TGIF Challenges. This month, the super talented Tammy Wilson from Stamps, Paper, Scissors came up with the challenge, and she chose “Going In Circles.” This is going to be a fun one!

Next week is our 30th wedding anniversary, so I decided to make a card for my loving husband. We were married in Yosemite National Park in the little chapel in the valley and then had our reception at the historic Ahwahnee Hotel. It was just perfect. We both love the mountains and hiking and couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate the beginning of our wonderful life together. Here are a few of my favorite photos.

I wanted my card to be rustic, reminiscent of our wedding in Yosemite, so I used the Rooted In Nature stamp set and In Good Taste Designer Series Paper. As an added bonus, Rooted In Nature just happens to have a “circular” wood stump stamp that fit perfectly with the challenge! I inked up the stamp with Gray Granite, stamped-off once to lighted the color, and then sponged Early Espresso ink around the edges prior to stamping on Whisper White Cardstock.

Don’t miss out! The In Good Taste Designer Series Paper is still on sale through tomorrow for 15% off! It’s one of my all time favorites!!!

Continuing with the theme, I stamped the sentiment in a circle around the stump using the Itty Bitty Greeting stamp set. The stamp I picked is a cling stamp, so it was a little hard to manipulate it into a curve. (A photopolymer stamp would have worked really well.) But, it’s what I had that fit the occasion, so I worked with it:) I stamped the sentiment with Sahara Sand ink on In Good Taste Designer Series Paper.

I also used that same paper for the roughed up background. After cutting the wood print layer and dry embossing it with the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder for added texture, I used my scissors to distress the edges.

To create the leaves, I used a Water Painter to randomly add Misty Moonlight, Sahara Sand, Gray Granite and Early Espresso ink to 100 Fluid Watercolor Paper. Then I cut out the leaves, added the embossing, and layered them over an Early Espresso Forever Flourishing die cut.

Lastly, I used the Layering Circle and Playful Alphabet Dies to cut out the “30” from Misty Moonlight Cardstock and layered it over another In Good Taste circle.

How about one more circle? And, you thought I was finished! For an embellishment, I cut off one side of some Metallic Ribbon so I could pull off some of the individual strands, and then I tied them in a small circle. There, I think that’s enough circles.

I think my husband’s going to love this!!!
