Stamping Sunday — You’ve Been Framed

By | August 20, 2023

Welcome to the August Stamping Sunday Blog Hop. This month, our theme is “You’ve Been Framed!” We could choose to make a framed project or use a frame on our projects. I love using frames on cards, so that’s what I picked.

The Stamping Sunday Blog Hop occurs on the 3rd Sunday of each month. We are a group of international Stampin’ Up! designers. To see all the projects, use the links at the bottom of this post.

For my project, I used the Deckled Rectangle Dies to create my frame and mat. Then, I used the Beauty of the Deep Bundle to create the ocean scene.

The card base and frame are cut from Night of Navy Cardstock and the mat is cut from Distressed Gold Specialty Paper.

I started making the ocean scene by watercoloring Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper with Night of Navy, Blueberry Bushel, and Tahitian Tide ink. I added extra ink to darken the edges and kept the center lighter ito give the illusion of light shinning from above.

After the paper dried, I used an embossing buddy to remove the static from the paper, and then I embossed the coral in gold and the bubbles in white. I also embossed other seaweed on Vellum and Night of Navy Cardstock for contrast and then cut out and watercolored some of the smaller coral shapes.

All the fish are stamped on watercolor paper as well. For the angelfish, I stamped it with Stazon ink so I could watercolor the stripes with Crushed Curry ink. For the two tangs, I inked up the stamp with Crushed Curry, added a little Pumpkin Pie ink with a Sponge Dauber, and then stamped. Afterwards, I used a Water Painter to slightly blend the ink, and then added an eye with a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.

The sentiment is embossed in gold on Night of Navy Cardstock using the Artistically Inked Stamp Set. Lastly, I added some gold sequins.

There’s something about navy and gold that’s just so elegant. I love it!!! I hope this card has inspired you.
