Color Fusers Blog Hop for August 2019

By | August 5, 2019

Hello, and welcome to the Color Fusers Blog Hop for August! This month, we have my favorite color combination of all time!!! I literally screamed with delight when I saw these colors. They are GORGEOUS!!! I’m such a “turquoise” girl. I can hardly wait to see all the beautiful projects the designers create.

If you are already following the blog hop, you’ve just come from the lovely Melissa Kerman. See the navigation buttons below to continue, as well as a full list of participants.

For my card, I tried a new technique (for me at least.) I was inspired by my Canadian demonstrator friend, Eva Dobilas, who has a blog called I Love To Stamp. You can see her post HERE. She used a technique to color white embossing with Watercolor Pencils, and I thought it was absolutely stunning.

My mom happened to be visiting last weekend, and we always love to stamp together and try new ideas. So we decided to try coloring white embossing, but instead of using Watercolor Pencils, we used Stampin’ Blends Markers. These alcohol-based markers are great for coloring pearls, rhinestones, and even ribbon, so I thought why not white embossing?

We started by embossing the Floral Essence flowers and leaves in white on Basic Black Cardstock. (One bonus of embossing on black is that it didn’t show if I made a mistake and accidentally colored the cardstock, especially on the middle flower, which has very fine line art.)

Next, we colored. Once I got started, I really began to have fun! When I colored the two outside flowers, I used multiple colors of Stampin’ Blends (including Pool Party, which I substituted for Coastal Cabana, since Stampin’ Blends don’t come in that color.) I used the brush end for most of the coloring, but then added details and dots with the nib end.

I colored the leaves entirely with Pretty Peacock, and left it that, because just when I finished, my husband called us to go wine tasting!!! Both of us dropped our coloring in a flash, and we were done for the day! Haha! Priorities… When I came back, I decided I liked my leaves just the way they were.

To finish off the flowers, I colored some Clear Faceted Gems with a Dark Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Write Marker, and placed them in the center of two Magnolia Memory die cuts. I also added some white embossed leaves on Bermuda Bay Cardstock to break up the black. Finally, I placed the whole array of flowers on top of a Stitched Labels Die.

When I’m designing cards, I never adhere anything down until I’ve laid it all out and am completely satisfied. Most the time, this works fairly well, but I have to admit, there are times when I go back later and think something’s missing. Murphy’s law is that it’s usually something I need to add to the bottom layer, and I end up having to lift up all the pieces and slip something underneath. This time, luckily, I realized I needed the ribbon BEFORE adhering everything down. 🙂

For the sentiment, I cut a few of the words out of one of the sayings from Floral Essence so it didn’t overwhelm the card.
