#TGIFC182 Inspiration Challenge

By | October 19, 2018

Happy Friday!  It’s TGIF and that means time for a new challenge.  This week is an inspiration challenge using the photo below.

Be sure to click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog to see all the designers’ projects for this week!

When I look at this photo, I see Halloween of course, but I also see elegant neutral colors with gold accents, black lace, and antique-looking pumpkins.  I also see Fall leaves on the pumpkins and an old wooden door.  I have to admit that I don’t have much in the way of Halloween craft supplies, so I had to be fairly creative for this challenge.

Since I don’t have a current pumpkin stamp set, I decided to make a pumpkin out of oval die cuts, and then I decorated it with items inspired by the photo.

First, I gave my pumpkin an antique look by splattering it with Vegas Gold Shimmer Paint and Sahara Sand ink.  I also used Sponge Daubers to sponge the sides with the same two colors.  For the stem of my pumpkin, I used the end of the branch die cut from Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies.

The “black lace” on my card is actually Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Designer Series Paper that I colored black with a sponge brayer and Memento ink.

Next, I cut lots of Fall leaves and branches out of Very Vanilla, Sahara Sand, and Basic Black Cardstock, as well as some Gold Foil, using the Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies.  To continue with the antique theme, I sponged and splattered them with Vegas Gold Shimmer Paint.

Finally, I stamped out my greeting using the Labeler Alphabet stamp set.  It’s one of my MOST-USED stamp sets!  Because it’s photopolymer, it’s super easy to stamp greetings free-hand and have them turn out looking really good.

Tips for using the Labeler Alphabet:  Stamp one letter at a time so the letters are fairly close together.  I like to set aside all my letters first, so they’re ready to go and easy to grab.  Use an oversized, clean acrylic block, so it’s easy to see through.  For sentiments like this one, where I plan to cut out the words, I suggest using the bottom edge of the cardstock as a guide to stamp the word straight.  I line up the bottom border of the stamp with the edge of the paper, and that gives me plenty of room to trim later.

Supplies used on my card:

Use this week’s inspiration photo to create your own project and link it to the TGIF Challenges Blog!  Upload a photo to social media or your blog, and then use the link tool at the bottom of the TGIF post.  I can’t wait to see what you create!  You might be this week’s winner!!!
Have a great day!!!

Thanks so much Barbara. I used an Aqua Painter for the splatters. I dipped the brush in the paint and used the cap to flick the brush towards the paper.

This is absolutely beautiful Tami! I love the vintage appeal and all of the splatters and sponging.

How do you ‘splatter’ the shimmer paint?

    Thanks ….Barbara
