#TGIFC168 Sketch Challenge

By | July 13, 2018

It’s time for a new sketch challenge at TGIF Challenges!!!  Sketch challenges are one of my favorites, because a lot of the hard work in designing is already done.  Here’s the sketch for this week:

Before I get to my card, be sure to check out the TGIF Challenges website and get inspired by all the designers’ projects.

I’m totally in love with the new Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper!  (Man, that’s a mouthful, so I’m just going to refer to it as laser-cut paper from here on out.)  It’s gorgeously delicate, and all the designs are white on one side and vanilla on the other.   I used several different sheets on my card to decorate the circles and run along the border.  I even cut out leaf pieces from the main floral design for my background.

I started out by using Layering Circles Framelits Dies to cut out the circles from both Shimmery White Cardstock and the laser-cut paper.  I had to be a little careful where I cut the laser paper.  For example, on my first attempt to cut the leaves, it completely fell apart into pieces, because I selected a section that wasn’t connected!!!  Haha!

Next, I watercolored the circles with various In Colors.  For the large circle, I used Lovely Lipstick, Berry Burst, and Powder Pink ink.  For the medium circle, I used Call Me Clover, Lemon Lime Twist, and Pineapple Punch ink.  And then for the small circle, I used Blueberry Bushel, Fresh Fig, and Berry Burst ink.  When the circles were dry, I very carefully adhered the laser-cut paper with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Tip:  Do you ever struggle to come up with color combinations?  Try choosing colors from the same color family and you really can’t go wrong.  For example, all of the In Colors including both the 2017-2019 and 2018-2020 collections are designed to coordinate with each other.

To add a little extra focus and color, I decided to add some gold embossed flowers using the Cake Soiree stamp set.  After stamping and embossing them on Shimmery White Cardstock, I watercolored them with Grapefruit Grove, Lovely Lipstick, and Powder Pink ink.  For the greeting, I stamped with Lovely Lipstick ink on Vellum Paper and then trimmed down the sentiment to the portion I wanted.

Don’t you just love the bright colors against the wood background?  Wood Textures Designer Series Paper is one of my all-time favs.  (I’m on my third pack right now!)  It’s among the numerous designer series papers on sale this month (Buy 3 Get 1 Free!)

There are a couple addition details on this card that I wanted to point out.  First is the pretty strip of laser-cut paper going down the border.  There are several of these lovely border designs included in laser-cut paper pack.  Second is the Very Vanilla 5/8″ Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon behind the greeting.  That ribbon comes in both Whisper White and Very Vanilla and it is just gorgeous!!!  It adds a beautiful, delicate feel to projects, and it can be colored with a spritzer to match any project!
