Color Fusers Blog Hop for February 2019

By | February 4, 2019

Welcome to the February Color Fusers Blog Hop! If you’re already following the Blog Hop, you’ve just come from the talented Sarah Wills. If you’re just starting, be sure to follow all the way through for lots of color inspiration. Navigation buttons are at the bottom of this post. Our colors this month include: Petal Pink, Poppy Parade, Early Espresso, Basic Black, and Whisper White.

I decided to make a Valentine’s Day card using the Meant To Be stamp set and coordinating Be Mine Stitched Framelits Dies. I’m just in love with this bundle!!!

I have to admit that when I initially saw this color combo, I felt a little challenged to come up with a concept. I typically would only pick black OR brown as a base color for a card, not both together. But in all honesty, that’s the reason why challenges are good … they make me think outside my comfort zone and come up with something different!

I decided to use Stampin’ Blends to color images stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento ink on Whisper White cardstock. Stampin’ Blends are available in both Poppy Parade and Petal Pink. With that in mind, I was just missing one color – Early Espresso. So, I used my Aqua Painter to watercolor some of the leaves with Early Espresso ink. Watercoloring on Whisper White cardstock is not a preferred choice. (Shimmery White or Watercolor Paper work much, much better.) But for small areas, I have found that I can get away with watercoloring on Whisper White cardstock, if I paint fast, with very little water, limiting back and forth motions.

After cutting out my stamped images, I created a fun, yet subtle background with Shimmery White Embossing Paste. I placed a Pattern Party Decorative Mask over my layer and then used a palette knife to spread the paste over the mask. It’s super easy!

Tip: Be sure to wash your mask and palette knife immediately, as the paste dries quickly. Also, I keep the lids of my jars of paste closed tight and store them in sealed plastic bags.

Final touches included a white embossed greeting on Early Espresso cardstock that I cut out by hand, some gorgeous Petal Pink/Whisper White 5/8″ Variegated Ribbon, and a few Petal Pink Frosted Flower Embellishments.

I’m so pleased with the final result!!!
