Hello and welcome to a new TGIF Challenge! This week, we’re being inspired by the photo below. I love inspiration challenges, because I can choose anything about it that I like, including the theme, the colors, or even the layout. For my project, I simply focused on travel and where I’d like to go … to Hawaii swimming with the turtles.
I’ve recently been busy designing a bunch of cards using the Sea Turtle Stamp Set for my upcoming mini class on July 29th. I love swimming and snorkeling in the ocean. It’s one of my happy places. I love the tranquil environment, the beautiful fish and corals, and the calm nature of the sea turtles floating along. Just thinking of it brings back such wonderful memories from vacations to Maui and Oahu with my family.
I’ve written a full tutorial for this card, which you can download HERE, so I’ll just go over a few highlights.
I wanted to figure out a way to add multiple colors to the sea turtle’s shell. So I stamped the detailed turtle with both Versamark and Crumb Cake ink together and then added clear embossing powder. This allowed me to heat emboss the details and then watercolor over it with multiple colors. The Crumb Cake appears lighter and more crisp than using gold embossing. I really love how it turned out.
The Loose Silver Sequins in the shaker make me think of bubbles and sunshine reflecting on the water.
The strip of More Dazzle Specialty Paper also makes me think of sparkling shells and sand. I’ve added it to almost every card I’ve made with this stamp set. For some reason, it just seems to elevate each project.
