Hello and welcome to a new TGIF Color Challenge. This week, our colors include Basic Black, Very Vanilla and Blackberry Bliss. When I first saw these colors, I initially thought of Halloween, but then I decided to try something a little different and design a Christmas card instead!
To create my card, I used the Whimsical Trees Bundle. It’s definitely my one of my favorite holiday bundles from the July-December Mini Catalog! And of course the obvious choice with this color challenge was to add some Blackberry Beauty 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper.
I tried a couple fun techniques on this card that I wanted to point out. First, I created a background layer on Vellum Cardstock using rubbing alcohol and Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blends Markers. This is not a new technique by any means, but it’s something I had never tried before. After a little playing around, I got the hang of it, and it’s super fun and easy! In fact, I’m demonstrating this technique on one of the cards during my upcoming Gorgeous Leaves online class.
The next fun idea was to create a panel along the top using the ornament die. I aligned and cut the die multiple times to create a peek-a-boo layer.
Next, I used my Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blends to color a panel of Very Vanilla Cardstock with an ombre design and then I used that panel to cut out the three smaller trees. Afterwards, I painted the trees with a Wink of Stella Glitter Brush for some extra holiday sparkle.
To incorporate a little Basic Black into my card, I stamped the sentiment with Memento ink and splattered the dry embossed background with a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.
