Happy Friday! It’s time for a new TGIF Challenge!!! This week, the challenge is to use splatter. Oh boy, I love getting messy. How about you?
For my project, I pulled out a new bundle I had just recently purchased — the Tasteful Textures Cling stamp set and Tasteful Background Dies. I thought the bold background shape would be a great backdrop for my splatter creation.
I created my background with Pigment Sprinkles and Watercolor Paper. (For more details, see my previous blog post HERE, where I created several backgrounds with Pigment Sprinkles using different techniques.) Here’s a quick recap: I shook dry Melon Mambo Pigment Sprinkles on the lower edge of a sheet of Watercolor Paper and then spritzed with clear water, holding the spritzer at a slight angle aimed towards the top. Of all the background sheets I created that day, this was my favorite. I LOVE the cool water effects and splatter!!! It just happened that way, I didn’t do anything special. The only suggestion I can make to recreate something like this is to add water cautiously. The more water you add, the more the colors will blend, and you’ll lose all that pretty detail.
Next, I used the Tasteful Background Die to cut out a negative section for the black background to show through. (I tried several colors, and black was definitely the most dramatic and striking.)
Now for the scary part … adding the black splatters. I REALLY didn’t want to ruin this background sheet. But, I also thought adding the black splatters would tie in the background to the negative die-cut and other black elements.
I created the black splatters using two methods. First, I used an Aqua Painter brush tip to pick up some Tuxedo Black Memento ink refill. Then I held the brush over my background and tapped it to add the large splatters. Next, I used a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to add the fine mist splatters. I held the cap over my background with one hand, placed the brush-end of the marker in the cap with my other hand, and then flicked the brush towards my paper.
Tip: It probably goes without saying, practice on scratch paper first until you feel confident:)
To finish, I stamped the card base using a Tasteful Textures stamp and Melon Mambo ink. Then, I cut out the Basic Black panel with a Stitched Rectangle Die and used the Subtle 3-D Embossing Folder to give it a little texture. (Texture is ALWAYS a good thing!)
Next, I embossed the Tasteful Textures greeting in white on Basic Black Cardstock, trimmed it close, and used a Banner Triple Punch to cut a “V” on one side. I adhered the banner with the new Black Dimensionals available to order in the Holiday Catalog on September 4, 2019. (Wonderful, little things like that make me so happy!!!)
Going with the theme, I splattered some sequins on the front as well and added a White Baker’s Twine bow to wrap things up.
