#TGIFC154- Color Challenge

By | April 6, 2018

Welcome to another TGIF Challenge!  Today, we have a color challenge including the following three 2016-2018 In-Colors:

I was so excited to see these colors!  They are perfect for spring and very “girly.”  That totally worked for me, because one of my goals last weekend was to make an extra special birthday card for my daughter, who’s turning 20 this month!!!  Oh my gosh, I can’t even believe I typed those words!!!  No more teenagers!  This is my baby!!!  It has been crazy how quickly the years have passed by.

The other reason I was excited to see these colors is because I want to use them!  The 2016-2018 In-Colors will be retiring on May 31st, and it’s always sad to say goodbye to beautiful colors.  So, I’m super excited to enjoy them while I can.  Also, just a word of advice.  Around this time of year, the retiring In-Colors, including ink pads, cardstock, refills, and ribbon sell out fast.  Therefore, be sure to order as soon as possible before they are gone for good.

Before I get to my card, go check out the other designers’ inspiring projects at the TGIF Challenges website.

For my card, I used the adorable Bird Banter stamp set.  I absolutely love this set, because of all the cute birds and sentiments.  I think I used all but one of the bird stamps on this card … I just didn’t have enough room!  Haha!!!

My daughter had two parakeets for a long time, and they were so sweet.  When I used to work at home, they filled the house with pretty music all day long.  Every time I turned on any of the faucets or opened the doors in the house, they would start chirping.  I got conditioned to hearing it, and I actually still miss it now that they’re gone.  It’s too silent!  The kids have moved out and the birds are in birdy heaven … well life does have a way of moving on

Anyway, I think my daughter will enjoy the memories on her special day.

I created a fun background so it looks like the birds are deep inside the trees.  I started by watercoloring Shimmery White cardstock with Lemon Lime Twist ink.  Then, I mixed a drop of that same color ink with some Shimmery White Embossing Paste and used a Sweet Soiree Decorative Mask to add the “hanging vines.”  Tip:  Embossing paste dries very fast, so clean up all your tools (mask, silicone sheet, and palette knife) immediately.  Also, screw on the lid tightly.  I even keep my jars of embossing paste in sealed plastic bags.

Next, I embossed all the birds, branches, leaves, and flowers in silver on Shimmery White cardstock and cut them out by hand.  Then, I used an Aqua Painter to watercolor them with Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach, and Sweet Sugarplum ink.  Oh, I also used a little bit of Lemon Lime Twist for the leaves.

Girls love bling, so I love the way this card has lots of shimmer from the paper to the embossing paste to the rhinestones.  As a final touch, I added some of my favorite Peekaboo Peach 5/8″ Crinkle Seam Binding Ribbon.  I cut two strips in order to tie a double bow.

For the inside, I cut some Large Numbers Framelits out of both Shimmery White and Peekaboo Peach cardstock.  Then, I watercolored the white numbers with the three challenge colors.  The Happy Birthday is from the coordinating stamp set, and then the sentiment is from Petal Palette.
