Fancy Friday – Paradise Palms

By | February 9, 2022

Hello Friends. Today I’m sharing my first project created for Stamping Fancy Friday! I was invited to join the group after my first year as Artisan, as the entire design team is made up of Artisan alumni. Talk about pressure to measure up! Haha. Hopefully, I’ll do a decent job.

I encourage you to follow Stamping Fancy Friday on Facebook and Instagram, as you’ll find almost daily inspiration. Our February theme is to use the sketch below created by the talented Jennifer Frost.

I love sketch challenges, because a lot of the work is already done. For my card, I chose one of my favorites from the JJ Mini Catalog: the Paradise Palms Bundle! I absolutely adore the tropics and palm trees, so this bundle speaks to my heart.

This card is really quite simple, since I just took advantage of the gorgeous New Horizons Designer Series Paper (DSP) to create my banner. I just ripped and layered several sheets. The watercoloring on this paper is TO DIE FOR, it’s so beautiful.

Next, I cut out the palm trees and banner from Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. (There’s one extra tree top for layering and dimension.) Then, I used my Water Painters and the following colors to watercolor the trees. For the trunks, I started with a wash of Sahara Sand ink and then added Soft Suede shading. I added the ink in horizontal lines to mimic the texture on an actual trunk. For the tree tops, I used a combination of Granny Apple Green, Just Jade, and Evening Evergreen ink. Then, I purposely colored the bottom palm a little darker for contrast. Finally, I stamped the coconuts with Soft Suede ink and cut them out with the coordinating die-cut.

I’m planning to give this card to my husband for Valentine’s Day. (Maybe he’ll get the hint and take me to Hawaii!) Since the Paradise Palms greetings didn’t quite work, I grabbed a greeting from the Happy & Heartfelt Stamp Set. Then, in the background, I used some of the new Vellum Layering Designs paper. Ohhh my, I’m so in love with this paper!!! In includes designs with both black and white printing and it’s so elegant.

Here’s the inside of the card. It includes another sentiment from the Happy & Heartfelt Stamp Set and just the faint illusion of palm trees stamped with Pale Papaya ink.

Hope my project inspired you. I honestly don’t think you could go wrong with this bundle.

Have a wonderful and creative day.
