It’s time for a new Color Fusers Blog Hop! This month, our color combination includes Evening Evergreen, Soft Succulent, and Rich Razzleberry. I LOVE this elegant combination! A week ago, I watched a great video on Instagram featuring Cindy Schuster, Melody Hyde, and Kaitlyn Zumbach from Stampin’ Through the Catalog. I’m a total fan of all of them and LOVE the cards they created. In fact I would highly recommend watching the video as it’s so fun to watch their creative minds at work and learn from their great tips. I was so inspired that I decided to CASE (copy and share everything) Kaitlyn’s card.
Kaitlyn’s card had the same layout, but included all white layers and die-cuts watercolored in a beautiful color spectrum of greens and blues. I changed it up to include the Quiet Meadow Bundle, a strip of Ever Eden Designer Series Paper on the left side, and the three Color Fusers challenge colors.
Since I was only using three colors on my card, I needed a wide variety of lights and darks from each color, so I could mimic the “spectrum-look” of Kaitlyn’s card. I decided to use Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper to cut all the Meadow die-cuts, as it’s very easy to add and take away color as needed. Then, after cutting the dies, I trimmed some of them down to create unique shapes.
Similar to the technique used by Kaitlyn in the video, I started with a soft wash and then added concentrated color as the pieces dried. I also spread the bristles of my large Water Painter to paint dry brush strokes for added interest, and when the pieces were completely dry, I used Stampin’ Write Markers to flick splatter over each one.
I created my card to fit into one of the new Slimline Envelopes, which happened to be colored Soft Succulent (perfect!) The Basic White card base measures 7″ x 8-1/2″ and is scored vertically at 3-1/2″.
To cut the edge of my designer series paper, I used a border die from the Penned Flowers Dies. The die was not long enough to cut the entire edge, so I used the same technique Kaitlyn used in the video to align and cut the remaining portion.
On the right side of my card, I added a subtle layer of Vellum Layering Designs Paper printed with white type. It’s hard to see in the photo, but beautiful in real life! Then, the final touch was some 2021-2023 In Color Jewels in both Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen.
