Welcome to the Color Fusers Blog Hop for June 2023. This month’s color combination of Bubble Bath, Pretty Peacock and Pool Party is so cool!!! I never would have thought of this one on my own, and I wasn’t even sure I was going to like it. But I think that’s why I ended up LOVING my card! It’s so different and whimsical.
Whether you’re starting the blog hop here or already following along, be sure to continue by clicking the navigation buttons at the bottom of this post. It’s going to be so fun to see all the designers projects!
I’ve had the Sea Turtle Stamp Set for a while. It’s totally my style, and I love it. But for some reason, probably because I was overthinking things, none of my initial attempts had worked out. So, I decided to give it another try, because I really do love it and Pool Party and Pretty Peacock made me think of turtles. (Go figure! Haha!) I figured I’d just work in the Bubble Bath somehow with the coral and starfish. I’m so glad I tried, because now I’m encouraged to use the set again. Keeping things simpler with the turtles was definitely the solution.
All three of the challenge colors have coordinating Stampin’ Blends Markers, so I decided to create an “ocean” with a marker/alcohol on Vellum Paper technique. I used the markers to randomly draw ripples onto Vellum Paper, and then I blended the colors with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and a paint brush. (This technique works best with the highest percentage possible.) Once it was dry, I flicked splatters of alcohol over the whole layer and then flipped the paper over to soften the colors.
I stamped the two turtles with Pool Party (stamped off once on scratch paper) and Pretty Peacock ink on Basic White Cardstock and then cut them out by hand. The Sea Turtle Stamp Set is reversible, which means you can use the front and back of the stamps for both the detail image and fill image. I also love the starfish and sand dollar images from this set. If you look very closely, you’ll notice that I also used the big bubble stamp from the set to heat emboss the top layer of Basic White Cardstock.
Afterwards, I added a few elements from the Beauty of the Deep Bundle, including the coral (cut from Bubble Bath Cardstock and shaded with Bubble Bath Stampin’ Blends Markers) and the seaweed (embossed in white on Vellum and cut out with the coordinating die.)
The final touch was to add some Flat Adhesive-Backed Pearls and a Go To Greeting cut with a Stylish Shapes Die.
