Control Freaks — Shine On

By | December 19, 2021

Hello and welcome to the December Control Freaks Blog Hop. This month, our theme is “Shine On.” So basically that means use ANYTHING shiny, such as foil papers, gilded leafing, jewels, Wink of Stella, … you get the drift. I love it, especially around the holidays.

If you’re already following the blog hop, then you just came from Debbie Henderson’s blog. Be sure to continue on by following the navigation buttons at the bottom of this post.

My project is a Christmas card for my wonderful husband! He just spent hours last week building me some super cool IKEA cabinets for my craft room!!! And that’s just one example of the many things that make me appreciate him sooooo much. He loves the outdoors and nature, so I decided to use a mixture of old and very new (preview from the new Mini) products.

The new January-June 2022 Mini Catalog includes one of my favorite suite of all time, the New Horizons Suite. This suite includes the On The Horizon stamp set, Horizon Dies, and New Horizons 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, among other awesome embellishments. I totally fell in love with the entire suite immediately and knew it would be perfect for my husband. If fact it is so perfect that I decided to add a few other elements and turn it into a Christmas card.

The gorgeous background for this card is designer series paper!!! Seriously, it looks watercolored, but it’s just paper that I trimmed down. How amazing is that? I simply stamped the birds and used the coordinating die-cuts to cut out the two layers of mountains, grass, and forground. Then, I added a few trees from the Majestic Mountain Dies and a greeting from the Christmas To Remember stamp set.

Now to explain all my “shine” elements. I added Brushed Gold Foil to the background, gold embossing to the sentiment, Shimmery Crystal Effects to the snow and trees, and Gilded Leafing to the grass! For the grass, I used Versamark ink and Heat & Stick Powder to emboss an entire panel of Shimmery White Cardstock and then I cut the grass from that panel. Pretty, don’t you think?

For the mountains, I very lightly watercolored the bottom layer on Shimmery White with Misty Moonlight ink.

The inside of the card shows another gorgeous sheet of this beautiful designer series paper.I’m totally in love with this new suite and can’t wait to use it more. It will be available to purchase on January 4, 2022 when the new January=June Mini Catalog goes live.
