Hello and welcome to the Control Freaks Blog Hop for October. This month, our theme is “Holiday with a Twist,” so in other words something non-traditional. That leaves A LOT of room for interpretation, so I’m excited to see what all the designers come up with!

After putting a lot of thought into this, I decided to create a card in honor of my friends down under who celebrate the holidays in the middle of Summer! Just once in my life, I would LOVE to spend Christmas under a palm tree with the sun on my face and my toes in the sand. I think that would be soooo cool!
I picked the Timeless Tropical stamp set and coordinating In The Tropics Dies for my card, as well as a pretty color combination that I saw all the Fancy Friday designers using this month. That combo includes Coastal Cabana, Real Red, and Old Olive.
To start, I stamped and embossed the palm trees in gold and then decorated the trunks with “holiday lights” of Red Rhinestones and Linen Thread.
Next, I watercolored a panel of Shimmery White Cardstock with Real Rd ink and another with Old Olive ink and then used them to die cut the flowers and leaves.
In the background, I watercolored a banner cut with the Stockings Die and another Shimmery White panel with Coastal Cabana ink. Then, I dry embossed the background panel with the Wintry 3D Embossing Folder. While I believe the embossed image is supposed to be ice crystals, it also looks like palm leaves to me!
As a final touch, I added a sentiment from the Christmas To Remember stamp set, a little strip of Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper, and a small scalloped border pieced together with a few Stitched So Sweetly die-cuts.
All in all, I think this card still speaks Christmas, but it’s definitely a twist from what I would normally make, so I think it meets the challenge.
