#TGIFC 382 – Beaches!

By | August 19, 2022

Welcome to a new TGIF Challenge! This week, our theme is BEACHES!!! Yay, I’m such a California girl at heart and love the beach. I love smelling the salt air, walking in the sand, listening to the waves, and feeling the warm breeze … literally everything about it. So when I saw this challenge, I jumped for joy!

I’m featuring one of my favorite stamp sets from the JD Mini … the Sunkissed stamp set. I just love the images and sentiments that can be used year-round. And, I couldn’t resist using some left-over retired Waves of Inspiration Designer Series Paper. It’s got to be one of my all-time favorites and just too perfect for this challenge.

I stamped the image with Stazon ink on Fluid Watercolor Paper. Tip: To get a good, clean image, I highly recommend using a Stamparatus. I don’t know about you, but my Stazon ink needs a few applications to stamp a delicate print like this one on textured watercolor paper. To achieve that, simply secure the watercolor paper in the Stamparatus with the magnets, place the stamp where you want it, and close the lid to adhere the stamp. Then, apply ink to the stamp and continue stamping until you’re satisfied with the image. I like to add light coats and creep up on it.

For the detailed, tiny coloring on this card, I used Watercolor Pencils. The fine point made it super easy to color the smaller sections of the umbrella (Pacific Point), pole (Early Espresso), chair slats (Calypso Coral), and chair bars (Basic Gray). Then, I used a Water Painter to blend the pencils and paint the sky (Coastal Cabana), sand (Petal Pink, Sahara Sand, and Crumb Cake), umbrella (Pacific Point), and hat (Daffodil Delight.)

To add more character to my card, I had the idea to rip one corner of the DSP; however, the other side of the print was very dark and showed through. So I adhered the DSP to Basic White Cardstock and used the Basic White to roll up and create the look I wanted.

For my bow, I cut Natural Woven Ribbon in half lengthwise and frayed some Crumb Cake baker’s twine. The final touch was some Fine Sparkle Adhesive-Backed Gems (which just happened to be the perfect colors!)
