It’s Friday, and that means time for a new TGIF Challenge. This week, the challenge is to make a shaker card!!! How fun is that? I love shaker cards, and I’m so excited to see what all the designers come up with!
Shaker cards can include all sorts of fun elements, such as sequins, trinkets, buttons, glitter, candy, … you name it. I decided I wanted to do a beach themed card, featuring the new Seaside Notions stamp set. I immediately fell in love with the cute seahorse, coral, and shell images in this set. So, I decided it would be fun to buy some small seashells and use those inside my shaker.
To create the shaker portion of the card, I cut a frame from Coastal Cabana Cardstock using the Stitched Rectangle Dies. Then, I adhered a Window Sheet to the back, and used Foam Adhesive Stripes to build up height. In fact, because my shells were fairly bulky, I ended up stacking two Foam Adhesive Strips on top of each other. These strips are awesome. They are super easy to use so the shaker portion is fully enclosed.
Before adhering the shaker frame to the card, I watercolored a layer of Shimmery White Cardstock for the background with Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, and Sahara Sand ink. After it dried, I add some random sand stamps to the bottom portion.
To cover the Foam Adhesive Strips, I cut 1/4″ strips of Coastal Cabana Cardstock and adhered them with glue dots to the sides. I probably should have done that on the inside too. Oh well, next time:)
Next, I decorated the top of my card. I embossed the seahorse, coral, and small seashell in white on Shimmery White Cardstock and then watercolored them with Calypso Coral, Petal Pink, and Bermuda Bay ink. I also used the Under the Sea Dies to cut some additional coral, grass, and sand dollar dies from Shimmery White Cardstock and watercolored them with the same colors.
I love how this turned out! It’s so fun!!!
