It’s time for a new What Will You Stamp? Challenge!  This week, we are featuring the oh so cute Spirited Snowman stamp set.  (You can see it on page 38 of the Holiday catalog.)  When I first saw it, I totally fell in love with the cute images  and greetings in this set.  It was a must have for me.

I made this card for my husband for Christmas last week.  Of all the images in this set, this one is my favorite.  And, I especially love the saying that goes with it.  When I started making this card, I had a vision in my head, and my karma was good.  It turned out just perfect!  Isn’t that nice when that happens?

Most of the card is stamped with Stazon ink on Shimmery White cardstock, and watercolored.  I simply stamped the images, and then dipped the brush of an Aqua Painter in ink pooled in the lids of my ink pads.

The background is a technique I love using for night skies and making a vibrant statement.  See below for instructions.

Ink Lifting Technique

To create the background, I started with a piece of Shimmery White cardstock the size of the card front.  (I trimmed it down later with a Stitched Rectangle Framelit Die.)  First, I masked out the heart shaped moon with a Post-It cut with a Be Mine Stitched Framelit.  Next, I added ink (Balmy Blue, Blueberry Bushel, and Night of Navy) using Sponge Daubers with small circular motions.  You need a lot of ink for this technique, so be generous.  I started with the lightest color around the moon, and then gradually added the darker ones.  At the end, I went over everything again with Balmy Blue to make sure it was good and blended.

Next, I added the splatters by holding my Aqua Painter over the layer and tapping the barrel.  (Practice first!)  Wait about 30 seconds, and then press a paper towel over the layer to remove the water.  The water lifts off color and creates the beautiful “snowflakes.”

After allowing the paper to dry, I rubbed the entire layer with an Embossing Buddy before I embossed the Winter Woods trees in white.

Supplies used on my card:

Hope you can join us this week at the What Will You Stamp? Challenge Blog.  I’d love to see your project using the Spirited Snowman stamp set!

Have a very Happy New Year!!!
