#TGIFC280 – Color Challenge

By | September 4, 2020

It’s a new month, and that means a new color challenge over at TGIF Challenges! September’s challenge includes the following color combination: Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz, and Soft Suede.

While being far from the obvious choice, I decided to use this color combination for a birthday card for my son. I know … normally I never would have considered using Blushing Bride for a masculine card, but I think it got sufficiently “manned” down by adding a bunch of wood prints. Ha! What do you think?

My son just moved to Southern California to attend grad school, which means he now lives within 60 miles of my daughter. I think the two of them have really missed each other! Within a week of moving, they got together to spend the entire day catching up, starting off with bottomless Mimosas at one of my daughter’s favorite restaurants in Newport Beach. I don’t think anything makes parents happier than knowing their kids genuinely love each other. After both of them told me how much they enjoyed the visit, I was inspired to create this card.

I used the Nothing’s Better Than stamp set and coordinating Love You More Than Dies to create this card. (Purchase in a bundle to save 10%!) This is such a fun set.

For the background, I used three different sheets of In Good Taste Designer Series Paper to cut the rectangular background, heart, and “Love you more than” words. I love how the words almost looks like inlaid wood.

I stamped all the cocktail images with Jet Black Stazon ink on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. For the drink inside the large glass, I inked up half the drink with Blushing Bride and the other half with Pear Pizzazz. Then, I stamped off once to lighten the colors. After stamping, I used a Water Painter to slightly blend the ink. I watercolored the contents of the smaller drinks, fruit, and umbrella with the challenge colors.

To create the smaller “cocktails,” I used Cindy Schuster‘s BRILLIANT idea to trim down the coffee cup image!

Here’s the inside of the card. He loves sweets and food in general, so he’ll get a big kick out of this card.
