Stamping Sunday – Flowers For Every Season

By | June 14, 2020

Welcome to the Stamping Sunday Blog Hop for June! I’m Tami Hewlett, from California, U.S.A. This month, we are celebrating the new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog by focusing on the Flowers For Every Season Suite. You can find these products on pages 10 through 13, including two gorgeous stamp/die bundles, and gorgeous coordinating designer series papers, ribbon and embellishments. What’s even better is that the suite features the new 2020-2022 In Colors!!!

For this blog hop, the designers have two options. We can demonstrate stepped up versions of the same card for beginner, casual, and avid crafters, or we can show a 3D project and card. This month, I chose the first option.

Beginner Crafter:

I used the Celebrate Sunflowers Bundle for all three of my cards. This bundle includes the Celebrate Sunflowers Cling Stamp Set and Sunflowers Dies.

For my beginner card, I focused on only using the stamps and one color of ink (Bumblebee.)

The Flowers For Every Season 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper is so pretty that I simply picked three different prints, trimmed them down to form small squares, and layered them on my card. Then, I stamped the large sunflower with Bumblebee ink, trimmed it down to match and added a sentiment. The final touch was a simple bow using some Bumblebee 1/4″ In Color Ribbon. Voila!

Casual Crafter:

For my next card, I stepped-up the difficulty by adding some die cuts using both the Sunflowers Dies and Stitched Shapes Dies (squares). I also added some coloring techniques, embossing and a fancy ribbon.

I switched to Shimmery White Cardstock for this card so I could watercolor the image, die cut, and background. I love that paper, because it’s smooth and easy to stamp, and it also withstands well to watercoloring. I stamped the large sunflower with Stazon ink and watercolored it with Magenta Madness, Bumblebee, and Cinnamon Cider ink. I also used Magenta Madness on the large detailed sunflower die and then used Just Jade watercoloring in the background.

To create the flecks in the background, I used a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. (Hold the cap and use it to flick the brush end of the marker towards the paper.)

Don’t you just love that gingham ribbon? It’s included in the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack. I wrapped the ribbon around the entire card and then added a strip of Tear & Tape to the right side so I could manipulate and fold the ribbon into place.

Avid Crafter:

To step-up the card even more, I added a different coloring technique, more layers and some additional ribbon.

For my last card, I switched back to Whisper White Cardstock so I could use Stampin’ Blends Markers for coloring. I was THRILLED to see that Stampin’ Up! offered Stampin’ Blends Markers in 4 of the 5 new In Colors!!!

I stamped the large sunflower image two times, once to die cut with a Stitched Shape square and another to fussy cut and layer on top. Then, I colored the flower with Magenta Madness, Petal Pink, Daffodil Delight, and Cinnamon Cider Stampin’ Blends. Tips: Use the brush end of the markers. Start with the darkest shade, only coloring the shadows, and then add progressively lighter colors. Color in small sections for enhanced blending. As you add lighter colors, reactivate the ink by going over the darker colors again.

For the top layer of the sunflower, I only cut out a few of the petals and layered it on top of the die cut square with dimensionals. I love how that added height brings the flower to life.

In the background, I watercolored a super quick wash of Bumblebee and then added flecks of Magenta Madness with a Stampin’ Write Marker.

Finally, I added some Flowers For Every Season Gems to both the Casual and Avid cards. The jade gems are faceted and the clear ones are smooth. Apply them with a little dab of Multipurpose Liquid Glue; they are so pretty!!!
