This week, What Will You Stamp is featuring one of my all-time favorite stamp sets — Waterfront!!! I love this stamp set for so many reasons. It features both tropical and mountain scenes, which are two of my favorite places to be. And, it features watercolor images, which is my absolute favorite style.
Be sure to click over to the WWYS Challenge Blog where you can see all the designers’ projects this week using this great stamp set. At that site, you can also link your own project for a chance to win!
There are so many techniques that work with this stamp set! You can 1) simply stamp, 2) stamp and then watercolor over the images to blend, and 3) ink up the stamp and then add water directly to the rubber prior to stamping. You can also stamp off for lighter images or choose to ink up only a portion of the stamp. This is why I love this set so much!
My card today is for my nephew. He currently lives in Colorado, but grew up in Mammoth Lakes, and he loves to hike and snow ski. So, he is a mountain man through and through. He’s also very adventurous! He’s currently in Africa hiking Mount Kilimanjaro!!!
I used watercolor paper for the main section, because I knew I wanted to watercolor over my stamped images. I started with the mountain by stamping off Blueberry Bushel twice. Then, I used an Aqua Painter to blend the image and fade it towards the bottom.
Next, I stamped the sky using Balmy Blue ink and the z looking stamp. I stamped and stamped off, and then used an Aqua Painter to blend the images.
Note: It’s important to let the paper dry in-between these steps if you want sharp edges.
Next, I stamped the background trees with Call Me Clover ink, stamping off once. I again used an Aqua Painter to really blend the ink and make the trees look far away.
After the paper dried, I stamped the foreground trees with Call Me Clover and Shaded Spruce ink. This time, I barely added any water to the trees with the Aqua Painter so they were fairly crisp.
For the cut out trees, I used Stampin’ Write Markers (Call Me Clover, Shaded Spruce, and Soft Suede) to color the stamp directly on the rubber. I stamped on Watercolor Paper, blended the image slightly with an Aqua Painter, and then cut it out with scissors.
Don’t you love the background paper on this card? You may have missed this in the Holiday Catalog, but it’s part of the Festive Farmhouse Designer Series Paper pack. I thought it was perfect for my mountain scene!
I added a Corrugated Element tag behind the trees to help distinguish them from the background, and my current favorite … Braided Linen Trim. I also added a Galvanized Clip to the top for a little more masculinity.
Since this is a birthday card, I had to create a sentiment with the Labeler Alphabet stamp set, stamping with Basic Gray on Whisper White Cardstock.
