#TGIFC476 — Color Challenge with Country Birdhouse

By | June 7, 2024

Hi friends! It’s time for a new TGIF Color Challenge. This week, our color combo includes Basic Gray, Pumpkin Pie, and Azure Afternoon. Hmm … I’m afraid it’s not a combo I would have ever selected on my own. I had to put A LOT of thought into this one!!! But then it occurred to me that birds are blue, flowers can be orange, and well hey, a birdhouse could be gray, right? I had an idea!

I bought the Country Birdhouse Bundle because it coordinates with the Country Flowers Bundle and entire Country Woods Suite Collection. The fonts in the two stamp sets, as well as a lot of the dies, mix and match. So I figured, why not? Now, I’m really glad I bought it because I think this card turned out darling!

I decided to use watercoloring for the background, bird, and flowers. That way, I could use lots of variations of the challenge colors. Azure Afternoon is one of my favorite blues and a washed down shade makes a gorgeous sky.

The Country Woods DSP has lots of Basic Gray prints, so it was perfect for the birdhouse. There’s even a cute little stamp to add detail to the scallop trim on the roof that I stamped with Basic Gray ink.

For the bird and flowers, I stamped the images with Stazon ink on Basic White Cardstock. Stazon is a must for watercoloring, because it won’t bleed when wet. I also added a little bit of Old Olive for the leaves, and then I pre-painted some Basic White Cardstock with both Old Olive and Azure Afternoon ink for die-cutting the leaves in the background. Some of those die-cuts are from the Country Flowers Dies. I think the blue tones helped to tie in the rest of the colors. Also, by pre-painting the paper, the die-cuts remain nice and crisp.

As I was looking through my embellishments, I found some retired Cork Rounds and thought one of them would be perfect for the bird perch!
