#TGIFC470 — Projects with Pockets

By | April 26, 2024

It’s Friday, and that means a new TGIF Challenge! Our theme this week is “projects with pockets.” Pockets are fun, and you can use them to add interactive elements, such as removable tags, hidden messages, and even surprises.

For my project, I used the new Spotlight On Nature Bundle from the 2024-2025 Annual Catalog going live May 1, 2024. During OnStage last month, I signed up for an After Hours Event where I got to play with this bundle. It’s different! The dies don’t cut out the stamped images; instead the dies include three types of different decorative circles in four sizes each. I was super intrigued and I LOVE it!!! I’ll be using those dies again and again.

I decided to use some of the Spotlight On Nature circle dies to create pockets by trimming them down to half circles. This card shows the circles with radiating stitches, very similar in style to the Online Exclusives Radiating Stitches Dies. I cut the circles from Unbounded Beauty Designer Series Paper, which includes a couple of the new In Colors: Petunia Pop and Summer Splash.

I used the Color Wheel I got at OnStage to come up with the color combination of Petunia Pop, Summer Splash, and Pumpkin Pie. These three colors are triadic colors (in a triangle on the Color Wheel.) Which brings me to some really good news!!! I just read that Stampin’ Up! will be offering a Color Wheel online towards the end of this year!!! I’ve had lots of requests to order one and Stampin’ Up listened!!! The new Color Wheel will only include the classic colors and basics so it stays current (in other words, no In Colors.)

I stamped the large Spotlight On Nature butterfly and flower with Stazon ink on Basic White Cardstock and watercolored them with all three ink colors. I also stamped the leaves with Summer Splash ink on Basic White Cardstock and lightly watercolored them with the same color. For both, I fussy cut them since there are no coordinating dies.

Next, I used the Flowers of Beauty Dies to cut the large sprig from Summer Splash Cardstock. Then, I used the Something Fancy Dies to cut the interactive tags. I confess that both were a little small for what I wanted so I used a partial die-cutting technique to lengthen them. Both are watercolored with Summer Splash ink and them stamped with splotch and crosshatch images from Spotlight On Nature. And finally, I added Bordered Ribbon in both Petunia Pop and Summer Splash to the top of the tags. I also used the Something Fancy Dies to cut the ends of my sentiment label.

I created the dry embossed background with the HUGE new Dotted Circles 3D Embossing Folder. It’s oversized, which is great because it gave me the option to position the cardstock right where I wanted it to flow with my pockets. There are several of these big new embossing folders in the new Annual! (The So Swirly Embossing Folder is also oversized.)

Be sure to click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog and check out all the designers’ projects with pockets! Then, make one of your own and enter our challenge at the bottom of that post.
