Hi stamping friends! I’m back and feeling better. For our TGIF Challenge this week, our theme is cakes! What a fun idea! I love the new Cake Fancy Stamp Set, with it’s watercolor style stamps. You can use it to build all sorts of delicious looking goodies. Plus, it’s got lots of fun decorating elements.
I decided to build a lemon cake, one of my favorites. I stamped the cake layers with Lemon Lolly ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock to give it a warm look, and then embossed the frosting in white. Yummy!
Going with the lemon theme, I also added a few lemon slices using the Sweet Citrus Hybrid Embossing Folder. I used Daffodil Delight ink and a brayer to add ink directly to the embossing folder and then ran it through the Cut & Emboss Machine with Basic White Cardstock. There is a coordinating die, which I could have used to cut out the lemons, but I prefer narrower borders, so I simply fussy cut the slices. Afterwards, I used Lemon Lolly ink to watercolor the wedges and rinds.
I also used the Sweet Citrus Embossing Folder to dry emboss the background layer.
Next came the fun part, decorating my cake! I used contrasting purple tones, including Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather, and Blackberry Bliss ink, to stamp the flowers. For some, I stamped and then used a Water Painter to slightly blend the ink. For others, I inked up the flowers with a couple colors, and then gave the stamp a light spritz, before stamping on Basic White Cardstock. Then for the leaves, I embossed them in white on Very Vanilla Cardstock. There are no coordinating dies for this stamp set, so I fussy cut them all.
To make the light colored cake stand out, I layered it over a watercolored background with Blackberry Bliss splatter.
Lemon cake anyone? (If only it was rea!)
