#TGIFC318 — Stampin’ Blends

By | May 28, 2021

It’s the last Friday of the month and that means Designer Take Over at TGIF Challenges! This time, it’s Breelin Renwick’s turn to pick the challenge and she chose Stampin’ Blends!!! She’s such a wonderful lady and you can see all her incredible creations on her blog at Craft-somnia Momma. All I can say is great choice, because I LOVE coloring with Stampin’ Blends.

It’s almost June, so I thought I’d think ahead and design a card for my husband for Father’s Day. He’s such a great dad and deserves all the recognition he can get. Since he loves backpacking, camping, and being outdoors, I thought the Campology stamp set would be the perfect choice.

Rather than creating a camping scene, I tried to think outside the box and design something a little different. So I decided to use a collage of tags. I used the Tailor Made Tags Dies to cut a variety of tags and reinforcers from In Good Taste Designer Series Paper and Basic White Cardstock. Then, I ripped and layered them for a rustic look.

I stamped the images with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and then used a WHOLE bunch of my Stampin’ Blends to color them (see list below.) I used almost every green and neutral colored marker available. Then, to add some fading in the sky and around the lantern, I used a Color Lifter Marker.

Coloring with Stampin’ Blends Markers is one of my favorite techniques, because it’s super easy. Here are a few tips if you’ve never used them before:

  1. Keep the caps on, because they are alcohol-based and will dry out fairly quick if you don’t.
  2. The colors continue to blend and expand, even after you’re finished coloring, so keep that in mind when you get near the edges.
  3. I mostly use the brush end unless I’m working on fine detail.
  4. Avoid going over areas again and again, as the more ink you add, the more the color will expand.
  5. For a nice variety in color, I like to start coloring the shadows with the dark marker. Then, I follow with the light marker by going over the dark areas again to reactivate the ink and blending out toward the lighter areas. Also, it goes without saying that the less times you go over the lighter areas, the lighter they will look.

Be sure to check out all the TGIF Challenge Designers’ projects this week using Stampin’ Blends Markers! Then, create one of your own, post it on social media or your blog, and link it to our challenge using the Linky Tool at the bottom of the TGIF Challenges post. I can’t wait to see how you use Stampin’ Blends.
