It’s TGIF Challenges Friday! This is a special Friday too, because it’s designer take over. Every time we have five Fridays in a month, one of our designers take over to create the fifth challenge. Fun, right?
This month, it’s Stesha Bloodhart’s turn, and she chose “Mad For Plaid.” Stesha is an AMAZING designer known for many styles, but the one that frequently catches my eye are her rustic cards. She’s brilliant at rustic cards, so this challenge was hardly a surprise. I can’t wait to see what she does. You can find her designs at Stampin’ Hoot.
I’m in the process of making Valentine’s Day cards, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to make some masculine ones. The Lots of Heart stamp set has a really cool check heart that I turned into plaid by adding extra lines with Stampin’ Write Markers!
For this first card, I stamped the checked heart with Pacific Point ink on In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (the same Gray Granite print as the smaller heart.) Then using a ruler, I used the brush end of a Balmy Blue marker and the nib end of a Night of Navy marker to add lines and create a plaid.
For the second card, I stamped the check heart with Night of Navy ink on the same paper, and then used Balmy Blue and Pacific Point markers to create the plaid. Luckily, when I went to cut out the hearts, the coordinating Many Hearts Dies does not leave a border, so you can’t see where my marker lines extended beyond the heart! Whew! That particular die also cuts the slim heart outline, smaller heart, and X’s and O’s! (Placement of the X’s and O’s was inspired by a card Lauren Alarid recently created. She’s another amazing TGIF Designer!)
I also used the Lots of Heart stamps to stamp the dotted background hearts.
The Love die-cut is from the Always Dies. Before cutting it out, I attached a Foam Adhesive Sheet to some Balmy Blue Cardstock. It’s a great way to give the word some dimension.
The two sentiments are from the coordinating Forever & Always Stamps, which I embossed in white on In Good Taste Designer Series Paper. In fact all the woodgrain prints on these cards come from that same pack. It is my absolute favorite pack of designer series paper, especially for masculine cards. (I’m on my third pack!!!)
To finish off my cards, I added some Well Suited Twine in Basic Gray and Night of Navy.
Be sure to check out all the designers’ Mad For Plaid cards at TGIF Challenges this week, and then create your own and enter our challenge. I’d love to see what you come up with!
Have a great day!
