#TGIFC246 – Sketch Challenge

By | January 10, 2020

Hello Stamping Friends! This week at TGIF Challenges, we have a new sketch challenge. I LOVE sketch challenges, because they inspire me to think outside the box.

I decided to break open my new Tropical Oasis Suite of products!!! It’s about time:) I absolutely fell in LOVE with everything about this suite when I first saw it on page 38 of the new January to June Mini Catalog. I bought the whole suite (153941), and then it sat on the shelf during the holidays … until now! Well, it’s a New Year and I’m excited to play with it!

Timeless Tropical Cling Stamp Set:

I decided to substitute the strips of paper in the sketch with palm trees! As you can see above, the stamp creates two trees, so to get an odd number, I stamped it, cut out the right one, and then layered it next to two doubles. To achieve a nice variation in color, I used a direct to rubber coloring technique with Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Soft Suede, and Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Markers. I stamped on Shimmery White Cardstock and then used an Aqua Painter with a dry brush to slightly blend the colors.

The accessories in this suite are fantastic! I particularly love the In The Tropics Designer Series Paper, Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder, and Tropical Oasis Memories & More Card Pack.

Tropical Oasis Suite Bundle:

And look at these gorgeous die cuts!

I used the embossing folder with the designer series paper to create the background.

Next, I fussy cut the cute “Woodie” from a Memories & More Card. As I was playing around with the positioning of everything on my card, I thought it would be fun to make the “aloha” sentiment look like it was coming out of the exhaust.

I cut the word out of Shimmery White Cardstock and used an Aqua Painter to watercolor it with Real Red and Daffodil Delight ink, similar to the car.

Going with the general layout of the sketch, I needed a long label that wouldn’t cover up too much of my palm trees. So, I created a custom tag using the Label Me Fancy Punch. I started by cutting a strip of designer series paper measuring 1-1/8″ wide. Then I carefully fed each end through the back of the punch so I could punch them individually and make the tag exactly as long as I wanted.

Hope I inspired you a little. I have lots more ideas for this awesome suite. Be sure to click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog and see all the designers beautiful projects this week! Then, create you own and play along with our challenge!

Have a wonderful and creative day!
