#TGIFC232 — Color Challenge

By | October 4, 2019

Hello and Happy Friday! This week, TGIF Challenges has a color challenge with a combination perfect for Fall! It includes Pretty Peacock, Grapefruit Grove, and Crumb Cake. At first, I wasn’t so sure I was going to like this combination, but once I started playing with it, I was hooked!

If you think about it, it makes sense that this color combo would be striking. Pretty Peacock and Grapefruit Grove are basically complementary colors, which means they are opposites on the color wheel. Complementary colors provide maximum contrast and visual appeal.

I decided to pull out an oldie but goody stamp set — Painted Harvest. It’s one of my favorites, because it has a watercolor style.

I cut the main panel from Shimmery White Cardstock using the largest square Stitched Shapes Die. Then, I used a spritzing technique that I love for watercolor style stamps. I stamped the solid flower and detailed leaves multiple times with Grapefruit Grove and Pretty Peacock ink, and then I spritzed the paper with clear water. The spritzing makes the ink bleed and run, creating a fun, artsy look. I proceeded to stamp the more detailed flower over the first. Because the paper was still slightly wet, the ink continued to bleed a little. Then, as the paper dried more, I stamped the detailed flower again.

When the paper was still fairly wet, I stamped the flower centers with Crumb Cake ink (stamped off once), and then stamped again when the paper dried. I also added the Crumb Cake dots when the paper had dried.

This technique is really fun and turns out quite different depending on the amount of water you add.

For the background, I used several layers of Woven Textures Designer Series Paper. I love how the deep, rich Pretty Peacock makes those Grapefruit Grove flowers pop!

I used the Well Written Dies to add a few details to the background and create a sentiment. Then, I added some fun layers, including some frayed Whisper White Bakers Twine and a strip of Crumb Cake Cardstock embossed with the Corrugated 3D Embossing Folder.

Be sure to click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog to see all the designers’ projects this week using this color combination. Then, create one of your own, and share it by adding it to the bottom of the post using the Linky Tool. I would love to see what you come up with!!!

Have a wonderful and creative day!
