#TGIFC156- Because Kindness Matters

By | April 20, 2018

Happy Friday!!!  It’s time for another TGIF Challenge, and this week it’s an inspiration challenge!  The challenge is random acts of kindness.  I love this so much!!!  Nothing’s better than surprising a special friend or family member with something totally unexpected.

To see all the designers projects, go to the TGIF Challenges website.

I decided to make a card for my sister and her husband!  I’ve been traveling to southern California a lot in the past couple years to visit my daughter, who’s going to Loyola Marymount University, and they never bat an eyelash when I ask if they’ll pick me up at the airport or let me stay at their house.   In fact during several visits, my mom and daughter have ended up staying at my sister’s house as well, and we end up having a girls weekend.  (We are actually doing that right now!!!)  I’m going to give this card to my sister and brother-in-law to let them know how much I love and appreciate them.

Obviously, my sister and brother-in-law deserve a thank you, but they’ll never expect it.  This challenge reminded me how important it is show random acts of appreciation with a card.  I really need to do this more often, because it feels good.

For my card, I decided to use some of my favorite retiring products.  I was actually super please to see that most of my favorite stamp sets are remaining in the new catalog, but there are a few that I’m really going to miss, such as the Remarkable You stamp set.  I absolutely love the bold brushstrokes in this set, and it’s such a fun stamp set to color!!!  You can still order it through May 31st or while supplies last.

I also used some retiring In-Colors, including Emerald Envy and Peekaboo Peach.  (While Flirty Flamingo is also retiring as an In Color, it is being integrated into the regular color collection in the new annual catalog.)

For the background, I used the smooching technique again!  This time, I used Shimmery White cardstock as my base.  Then, I pressed a small acrylic “C” block into an Lemon Lime Twist ink pad .  Next, I spritzed it with water and used it to “paint” my paper.  I started on the edges and worked towards the center.  I did this a few times.  Afterwards, I did the same thing with Emerald Envy ink, but this time on some of the swipes, I stamped off my block once to lighten the color.

For the flower and leaves, I stamped and embossed them in white on Shimmery White cardstock.  Then, I used an Aqua Painter to watercolor with the ink colors listed below.  Afterwards, I cut out the pieces close to the white embossing and layered the elements on my card with dimensionals.

To create the folded ribbon, I placed a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive across my card, and then folded the ribbon in place.  That adhesive is so strong that it easily holds the ribbon.  Then, for a little added glitz I tied some Gold Mini Tinsel Trim around the whole card.

Supplies used on my card:

Hope you can join us at TGIF Challenges this week!  I would love to see your projects and hear about your random acts of kindness!!!
