#TGIFC150 Sketch Challenge

By | March 9, 2018

TGIF!!!  It’s time for a new sketch challenge, and this is a really fun one!

This week’s sketch is a legal size card (9″ x 3-3/4″), designed to fit into a standard legal envelope.  How fun is that?  To see all the designers’ creations, go to the TGIF Challenges website.  At that site, you can also link your own design.  Each week, we pick a winner!!!

I made two similar cards using this sketch, both for guy birthdays.  I decided to break out my Brusho Crystal Colours and have some fun!!!  I was going for bright and cheery, yet still masculine.

I started by cutting one of the circle dies from Stitched Shape Framelits from Watercolor Paper.  Then for the one card, I used Gamboge and Prussian Blue Brusho, and for the other card I used Gamboge and Red Brusho.  I sprinkled the Brusho on the Watercolor Paper and then spritzed with water.

Brusho is super fun, but it can be messy.  I suggest having some paper towels nearby to mop up excess water.  Also, be sure to clean up your workspace before moving on to “cleaner” layers.  If there are any stray crystals left and they get wet … well, you’ll have some colorful mistakes coming your way.

Next, I decided I to make the bottom strip of the sketch with Brusho as well, but with some contrasting colors.  This time, I used Shimmery White Paper, because I didn’t have any Watercolor Paper that was 9″ long!  (Haha!!!)  For one card, I used Prussian Blue and Moss Green Brusho, and for the other card, I used Yellow and Gamboge Brusho.  Again, I sprinkled and then spritzed.  However, this time, I added a little less water resulting in a more speckled effect.

For the wood section of the card, I used up a bunch of my old scraps of Wood Textures Designer Series Paper.  I cut them all 3″ tall, and then with varying widths ranging from 1″ to 1-1/2″.  After layering them on the cards, I sponged the edges with Early Espresso ink.

Next, I cut out two layers of Happy Birthday Thinlits for each card.  However, prior to cutting them with the Big Shot, I backed the paper with Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to make it super easy to adhere.  For one card, I layered Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point cardstock, and for the other, I layered Lemon Lime Twist and Pumpkin Pie cardstock.

To finish off the cards, I got a little crazy with ribbon and trim.  I took some 1/4″ Copper Trim and pulled it apart to widen it and show the cool netting.  Then I folded the Copper Trim in half and placed it under the circle die.  Next, I took a strip of Bermuda Bay 3/8″ Mini Chevron Ribbon and cut off one whole side so I could completely unravel it.  I did a similar process for the other card using Daffodil Delight 1/4″ Double Stitched Ribbon.  With that ribbon, I got the added bonus of some white strands mixed in with the yellow!!!  Super cool and shabby/rough looking.

Lastly, I added some Enamel Shapes in Pumpkin Pie and Tangerine Tango.

Supplies used on my card:

Hope you get a change to check out all the TGIF Challenges creations for this week.  You are sure to be inspired!  Also, I hope you can come play along and link your project using our sketch!  (Instructions are at the bottom of the post on the TGIF Challenges website.)
Have an awesome day!!!
