A Special 100th Birthday

By | July 25, 2023

My Mother-In-Law, Antionette (Toni), just celebrated her 100th birthday! Isn’t that amazing? You’d never guess. We are very blessed.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, my sister-in-law and husband arranged a big surprise party. We filled a whole restaurant with friends and family. My sister-in-law’s decorations and attention to detail were amazing, and the birthday girl felt like a queen. She even got a key to the city! One of my favorite moments was watching a beautiful montage of photos, coordinated with some of Toni’s favorite music.

I wanted to share a few of the special things I made for the party.

Toni loves pink, so I used a mixture of current and retired products to get exactly what I wanted. I searched through my stash to find all the Blushing Bride products, including ink, cardstock, designer series papers and ribbons.

Her gift bag features watercolored flowers made with the Paper Florist Dies, leaves cut with Gorgeously Made Dies, and a gold embossed sentiment using the Go To Greetings Stamp Set.

I covered the bag with Blushing Bride Cardstock and then adhered some Vellum Basics over the top to soften the overall look. For the flowers, I cut the big one from Basic White Cardstock and the small ones from Shimmery White Cardstock. I wanted to leave a little white showing on the big one, but the small ones are completely painted, so I chose the Shimmery Paper since it withstands watercoloring better.

I watercolored with Blushing Bride and a little Polished Pink ink, and then used So Saffron for the flower centers. The center of the large flower is cut from pink shimmer paper. It’s also retired from last year. I like it though because it’s nice and thin.

I also made a coordinating card. The designer series paper, ribbon, and Opal Rounds are all retired. I used the Nested Essentials Dies for the banner and Alphabet A La Mode Dies for the “100.”

Next, I made 60 treat bags for the tables at the party! There were several versions, but they all followed the same general design. The main difference was the designer series paper and sequins. It was a good way for me to use up a lot of retired papers and embellishments.

For these flowers, I used some old Sale-A-Bration designer series paper that my mom and good stamping friend found for me in their stash. Between the two of them, I was able to cut out and make all 60 flowers! That saved a lot of time, since I didn’t need to watercolor the petals individually. But, I still got the pretty variegated look that I wanted.

When these Embossed Gift Bags were retiring, I bought up 60 at a reduced price! Each one has a rectangle cut with the Radiating Stitches Dies, sentiment from the Circle Saying Stamp Set, one paper flower, and leaves cut from Distressed Gold. The flower centers are cut from White Glimmer Paper and the numbers are cut from Gold Foil Paper.

Inside, I added Ghirardelli chocolates and one Linder Ball tied with various Blushing Bride and gold ribbons from my stash.

Happy Birthday Toni! May she cherish every day and continue to enjoy life. Here I am with the “Queen for the Day”, along with my husband, son, mom, and daughter.

Have a wonderful day!
